is it possible to check the valve clearances on a warm engine ?

Hot Warm? To see if you have valve clearance?? Yes

To adjust them? No I would much prefer to set them on an engine that has sat to cool down for a decent length of time :rob 2 or 3 hours ish till they are very luke warm but not much more¬!

If you can comfortably hold your hand on the cylinder head it should be cold enough. In some countries that would be ambient temperature.

And if you can hold someone else's hand hard against the "warm" cylinder head, you will be able to join the Libyan security services.

Cold is ideal,

I did mine on a saturday morning after leaving overnight to cool.

the risk is if you do em hot you may reduce the clearances to a point where you no longer have clearance.

parts dont make contact with clearance ;)

If you do it yourself, why would you do it on a warm engine?
The clearances are specified for a cold engine and that for good reason.
Having said that, it will not hurt if the engine is still just slightly warm. After all that is what the dealer is doing if you bring your bike for service and wait while they are working on it.

A cold engine can be quite warm in the middle of summer compared to a cold engine in winter so there is no "absolute perfect" temperature to adjust valves.

Measure the clearances when the engine is very hot and then again when "cold" and you'll find very the difference isn't as great as you'd expect.
