The R1200 with the twin-cam engine is one of the easiest I've worked with when it comes to valve adjustment. Of course you need a shim kit and BMW recommends buying new ones and not reusing the locking clip. Advice I don't usually follow. The easy valve adjustment is one of the reasons I like the twin-cam engine. I saw someone wondering why they don't use self-adjusting hydraulic lifters. It's common in cars but there are disadvantages. First, it increases the height (width when we're talking about a boxer) of the engine and then it happens that the lifters stop working. I therefore prefer mechanical adjustment and when the engine is as well built as the R1200 twin-cam, there is no problem adjusting the valve clearance.
