My turn to say hello...etc....

Well: it's seems to be fashionable to pop over here and post (Guten Tag Herr S Baron!)

Only been on bikes for 4 years; 1st one was a 600 Bandit (sensible?!?!), then I wanted a "big trailie". Got a shot on the GS1150 and was blown away by it :clap

However, I'm a tight-fisted Jock stereotype, so wasn't prepared to shell out for a GS. Tried a V-Strom, Tiger, Caponord, and TDM as well as the Vara, in the space of a couple of weeks. The Vara was the best (in my humble & limited opinion).

Please note....I agree with most of you on one thing, as I've often said on the Varadero forum..the only time I will be going off-road on a Vara is the bum-clenching, half-second as I career off the tarmac towards a hedge

TTFN

BTW: them 2 yokels in the picture weren't in Wales....£2.80 buys a lot of lager in Poland :beerjug: :beerjug:

Ive come to realise everyone who seems to own this clown of a bike has no hair, aged at least 45 and over, a big belly, little humour other than homophobic tendancies, very little debate ability and also very little chance of ever being laid again. They should have attached a warning label to the motorbike when they sold me my one at the dealership (incidently, the owner met the above criteria curiously enough), it would have saved me a lot of time and money.

Good to see your only in it for the image - let us all know what model is the next flavour of the month -

Do i care , go do one :D :D

Now where did you get that idea from? :D

Varadero vs GS

When I first decided to change the `Blade for something more "sensible" I was torn between the Varadero and the GS.
I had a shot on Straypuss` 1100GS and, even with a knackered back shock, thought it was fun.
I then test drove a Varadero at my local dealers and thought it was really comfy with a good engine [I had previously owned a Firestorm ], my son who went pillion thought it was ok as well.
I then tried a 1200GS and thought it was ok but could not afford a new one,
I settled on an `03 1150GS, which I love and have done more miles than I would have covered on sports bikes and have no desire to return to one.

My opinions about the two bikes are,

Varadero - More comfortable than the GS, I had to fit a Corbin to the GS after getting arse ache after 30mins.
Faster than the GS.
My Honda Dealer is 10 mins away, BMW - 1 hour.
I have never had to get any Honda parts replaced under warranty due to corrosion.
Varadero has better lights.
Honda servicing costs are way below BMW.

GS - Handles better than the `Dero.
No Chain.

So why do I have a GS rather than the Varadero?

I don`t honsestly know, it just has that something. :nenau :nenau :nenau

For completeness, the reciprocal link in the Varadero forum is here .

Honestly Rode a Vara and it anit half bad actually. In fact I am crying in my beer as I realise now I could have saved £3.5k on a better bike if I wasnt so influenced by fashion, brain washing and brand loyalty

I've had a Varadero for almost two years, and had a baby Varadero before that. The baby Varadero was brilliant, and I only changed it because I passed my Direct Access and needed something more powerful for my commute. The only problem I had with it was the finish which wasn't perfect, mostly around the swingarm. I then progressed to the larger Varadero mainly because I got a new older carb model for a good price. I can vouch for many good points. Its very comfortable, the engine makes light work of the weight, weather protection even with the standard screen is very good, on the move its suprisingly nimble, and never used any oil outside the services. What I didn't really like was the finish. I've done just under 12000 miles in two years. Admittedly its been ridden through winter, and they are very liberal when it comes to gritting on the roads I use, however the bike was beginning to show a fair bit of corrosion and discolouration. I am in my last week of ownership mainly because I can't see myself getting a halfway decent trade in price in another years time. I can't comment on the newer fuel injected Varadero's. I came close to trading in for a new Vara, especially after seeing the recent special offer for the non abs special edition, but was swayed in the end by the GS's looks and the way they hold their value. I am going to miss the Vara though, especially that engine.

A mate of mine used to have a Vara, good old bus, but shocking fuel consumption and crap build quality, wheels coroded almost as fast as my GS's :D

The Vara boys might know but i was told that there made in Spain rather than Japan.

Never seen one been riden slow, my mate now owns a 1100GS :thumb
