Vario plate info needed

Hi All,

I brought a vario plate of a friend off a friend and the plate (off an older 1200, not sure of year ) fits onto the rear seat section of my 08 bike. However, you would need to remove the rear rack to use a vario box on it

It doesnt have the 2 arm stalks that would enable it to fit onto the rear rack of my bike. its seems its the same rack as i guy i met at Newlands corner today and it looks like i just need the 2 arms to make it fit my rear rack.

Can anyone tell me can i just get the stalks from a BuMW Dealer or anywhere else or have i made an error in buying the plate, i dont have a box yet so no great expense laid out but was hoping to buy a used vario box for it.

Tha base plate fits onto the standard rack. It does need the two 'arms' to secure it to the frame below the rack. Main issue may be whether the plate is compatible with your topbox.

The first tobox (I had two of them) had a fault which resulted in some design changes to make it more robust. This also meant a new baseplate.

You should at least be able to check whether the plate and your box are compatible without fixing it onto the bike. Otherwise, get your local dealer to check it all for you.

05 gs to 08

I bought and put one on my 05 from a guy with an 08. He said it came with the bike and he didn’t want it. Your bike comes all ready to install, there are two cut outs from the factory just above the `brake light. My 05 needed to be trimmed a bit to fit but they should work fine. The rear case was brand new 08 so they must be the same. The bars can be bought separate here so it should be the same over across the pond. The bars are a must though; unlike my wife they really give a lot of support. Dave. (just kidding dear) (in case she reads this)

I called BuMW and they said it would work with the bars, which are £44, alternantively the new kit including the plate and bars is only £52 mnnnn interesting, may as well get the whole kit i guess.
