Has anybody experienced their Vario topcase becoming loose and rattling on the mounting plate?
I've asked the dealer to check it, and they say it is not bad enough to warrant a repair or replace. It was fitted when I bought the bike new and is still under warranty.
They assure me it will not fall off but I should 'monitor' it.

Yep, had this on my previous bike. I cut some small pieces of rubber matting to fill the gaps between box and plate. It worked, but you really shouldn't have to do this, should you?
Cheers
Geoff

I think they all do well mine do :aidan

Mine rattles about - I use adhesive backed 25mm wide 8mm thick dense foam rubber sealing strip positioned in strategic places to stop it rattling.
This needs replacing every now and again, so maybe solid rubber of an appropriate thickness would be better.
If you look at the box and rack you should see the rub marks where the movement wears the plastic - this where you need the packing.

Mine rattles a little.

I was thinking of selling it and getting the Adventure metal one.

Anyone fancy swapping? :toungincheek

Mines been rattling for 5 years now, but it still works fine and hasn't ever fallen off.

sorry but ......

Hi sherpatensing

For some reason unkown to me my top case is rock solid :nenau ( dont tell anybody) and has always been that way .

Regards Bigboy

I cut a section of OXFORD PRODUCTS BLANKET and placed it on the plate.
It does two things a) prevents undue movement given grippy surface.
and b) because it adds a slightly thicker contact to the plate thus the locking mechanism seems to fit more snuggly, probably because some of the play has been taken up.

Works a treat.

and next to noting in terms of cost.

Exactly the same solution on my F650's top box. 1200 box is (fingers crossed) still firm and non-rattly.
