Ayup fella's, i brought some new vario's for my TE on arriving home i thought I'd fit them.

Fitted the case into the seat tray and onto the pillion rear peg, went to snap the red lever down to engage the 2 rear locking tabs and fook me the locking tab nearest to riders seat hits the seat tray about 10mm this is the same on both panniers and therefore the panniers are insecure and will not fit.

You can see the locking tab hitting the tray.

So i called the dealer they don't no what the problem is but said there must be a fault with the spacing on the bike and need the bike back, that kind of dont help as i go away thurs.

So i called into another dealer and asked if they had seen this problem, yes several times some bikes are fine others dont fit, they said the tolerances must be out there fix is to install washer under the pillion pegs !

My rear pegs.

Seems a common issue .

I really thought the TE meant touring edition ! And was ready to fit vario's to it instead pay £15k than fit repair washers to your pillion pegs to get the panniers to fit another fook up by BMW, and if yours don't fit you now no what the Problem is.

I've got them to fit for time being so im ready to rock n roll, I'm going to get the dealer put this right on my return.

I have the same problem.
My dealer informed me at the time of hand over. They fitted a couple of spacers so the panniers would fit.
I am told that only a few bikes are affected and BMW will rectify the problem,
still waiting.

The dealer i had the bike from knew nothing about the problem and told me to cut down the plastic trim on the pillion pegs quick fix to enable me to go away but removing the plastic bits was not enough to allow the locking tabs to engage so really gave misleading advise out, seeing as this issue is going to be/already is a problem to many you would have thought all dealers had been informed of this issue.

so - fit a placcy washer. :nenau

You sound like you are considering rejecting the bike for not being "fit for purpose" :blast

Al

I really wish people would downsize their pictures

Wouldn't do justice to the scale of the problem.

A million miles of road testing..... And a pannier doesn't fit. This is a premium priced vehicle, a premium product. Disgraceful.

Undo everything associated with the parts that don't fit, give them all a bit of a wiggle and once you've made them fit, tighten it all up again :nenau

No, it oughtn't be necessary with a new bike, but then life is full of things that shouldn't be :thumb2

Sent my Varios back .

First trip to Germany panniers jammed on the bike and mechanism broke
Lids flexed too much to be any good

Bought a set of Touratech panniers instead

Paying 15K and using washers to adjust for a manufacturing mess up is just not on.

I have heard stories of

Panniers fit both sides with no washers needed

Panniers need washers on one side only

Panniers need washers on both sides

FFS i pay £15k and expect to fit my own washers are you pissed ! ill tell my customer tomorrow I've fitted your bath but you have to fit your own taps ! Ill let you no what they say .

Feck rejecting it ill get more pleasure being a cnunt and harassing them every day until its put right and not with repair washers and they can fix/replace my broken vario's .

Both mine don't fit left side is far worse than the right .

The TT zega boxes are nice i was there last wk and asked if they had them in stock (no) i would have brought them .

Being serious for a second here........

Rather than buying Varios, just call Vern.......I'm sure that if you go to him with your toilet and let him measure it all up, he'll give you a fekking good deal on a new pair of Vernatoilets, they'll be twice as strong as Varios and built to your own specs......

No way should a brand new bike with the same 'matching' panniers not fit :blast

Now this issue would really piss me off..........luckily my lack of 15k saves me once again...:D

Mine didn't fit either. Official Motorrad washers fitted today. Apparently this is a known issue, and was dealt with as a warranty claim.

Cheers
Jimmy

I bet the whole situation will seem a lot less Drama Queenish by not calling them washers and instead referring to them as 'shims' :augie
