Anybody got some photos of the varios on the new lc gsa don't fancy paying an extra £800 for luggage when I've got some varios, and is it just the hangers I have to change?

How about this one, if you want some others I should hopefully collect mine at the end of the week and I opted for varios

Thanks for that! Are your dealers charging you for the different hangers if so how much?

They have thrown in the Vario panniers and I have had to pay for the hangers which I think was a couple of hundred (I will let you know when I have a look). They will give me the items that they remove so if anyone wants to put alloy panniers on their GS I will have the frames and hangers.

Do the old ones still fit the new bike, with it having the exhaust on the other side?

No, they will not and the inner bags won't fit either as they have ever so slightly changed the shape.

They're not standard and I pinched this photo from Vanharten BMW website. I will hopefully pick my GSA up on Friday and I may consider getting the bars sprayed black

I prefer the varios!! Much more versatile!

George, sell the panniers on here, and get the dealer to knock 20% off the luggage; jobs a goodun.:thumb:D

IMO, Varios don't look right on the GSA, and from experience, are a PITA to load, with the side mechanism. They aren't as strong as the metal boxes either.

If I was going to go down the pannier route on my GSA, I'd go with the GSA ones.:thumb

I understand what your saying rich but I use the luggage once or maybe twice a year and soft luggage if away for the weekend.

I just use cheap inner bags, so loading isn't a problem and the Vario's are much narrower when unexpanded. This make them more versatile as it makes filtering much easier and they don't act as air brakes when lightly loaded. They can then be quickly expanded when you park up allowing you to stick your helmet in one and jacket in the other.

With the bmw inner bags, it was a mission to get them back in the panniers each morning, when away on a trip. I had to jump up and down on them to squash them down! All the while, I was wishing they were top loading! But yes, filtering was much easier with them.:thumb

Softbag large is a good touring option if one up, stick it on the back seat and its bloody massive. i think varios are average at best and dont compare to the metal boxes which have far more capacity. most of the insides seems to be the adjustment mechanism on the varios and i agree with Nutty (had to happen eventually :D) they do look slightly naff on the GSA.

Varios are easier to keep clean the GSA ali panniers are a bastard to clean one winter and there pitted:eek:

Catch, where did you get the plate covering the back seat ?

I painted it silver coz it somehow looks better to the silver finish of the bike tail.
The aluminium panniers are too wide IMO and look like oversea containers. If the bike falls they usually bend to death. Next thing is, when I load all my camping stuff on my bike I want to have the chance to reach the stuff inside the panniers. Try that with the alu panniers....no chance as the lid opens to the top.
The alu's are IMO more durable or usable when you plan an off road journey through weird countries.....like Marokko, Tunesia or the United Kingdom :D
