Anyone used them on their GS?

I had a struggle to start my biek this morning and had to jump it (i think the Original battery is on its death bed).

I cant afford an odyssey at the moment and wondered what these Varts where like?

Supposedly (from Varta) they are a direct swap. I know the cold crank isnt the highest.

Ok...

So i just bought the bike and am a bit skint...but i probably shouldnt skimp too much?

I only ask as i have found the Varta for £40.

If its going to make a HUGE difference to life and ease of starting "most damage is done during the cranking at start-up". I would find the exstra £40 and go for the Odyssey as i can see thats what most people recommend.

Any other ideas?

Be tight and have to buy a better battery next year (when i may be just as skint ;) ) or By the best i can now and to hell with it.

P.S Spikehammer if your reading. the bike is bloody awesome. I thought i loved the Harley but it truly wasnt a patch on this!

inc electrolite and del its £53 (the varta you linked to
look at the unibat i linked to not the Odyssey

Varta 519 013 works fine.
19 Ah and 170 A Cold crank amps
Fits direct in.
It used to be the original battery in BMW bikes some years ago.

Aye.. my last battery was a Varta lead/acid.. lasted less than 3 years. despite the fact my bike isn't overwhelmed with gadgetry.. and is used daily - with very few 'short runs'

I was disappointed with its longevity.. and when it died.. which took about 3 months.. I went for an EXIDE Gel.

While we're on batteries, I've heard that it's practically impossible to recover a gel battery once it's gone below a certain point, but that lead/acid can be brought back from the dead.

Opinions?

My GSA was having problems starting in all this recent cold weather despite being garaged. I changed to the varta battery but have had a few problems. If i didnt use it every day, it was touch and go whether it started. Ive taken it back to the supplier to check over with a tester and re fitted my old one in the mean time. Its been starting ok so far :blast not heard from the garage yet but will repost when I hear anything.
