Not going to lie - I am half tempted to trade my 1250 GSA in against one. Similar monthly, paying less interest and on a new bike...Mhmmm

Funny enough, the wife has already okayed it :ROFLMAO:
Reading this, makes me feel that you already halfway out the front door…

I was mate.

I test rode one this morning and the R1300GSA is a better bike then my R1250GSA, make no mistake. But I'll have to sell some of the 1250 kit and replace it with kit that fits on the 1300 and I don't know if I can be arsed so I'm thinking about it for now.

I am in a similar position, rode the 1300 GSA ASA and liked it, but I have fully loaded 1250 GSA and as nothing fits from the 1250 to the 1300 it does make you think is it worth it? So having had a quote to change, I am giving myself a cooling off period to think it through.

Interested what your quote came in. They will settle my 1250GSA, with £2k deposit £199 a month 4k miles a year.

Nope, I wrote it drawing on my experience of motorcycling spanning 40+ years, several of which I worked in the trade. Just walk round your local showroom and see how many 2nd hand bikes have average mileages below 4k.

of the 1191 bikes on Auto trader over 800cc regitered in 2022 980 have less than 10k miles avg 3k py, or the 1027 registered in 2021 761 have less than 10k miles avg 2500 per year granted some adverts may not have mileage quoted but most will.
So, what the AT figures are saying is that folk rent a bike on a PCP deal, discover they cant afford it, and throw it back in?
Or, leave it standing gathering dust in their lock-up? Fools and their money, and all that....
.
Whereas others, perhaps like you, rent on an under-mileage deal, and cough up for any mileage penalty?
Not my bag, thanks (y) Don't buy what you can't afford.

Was just musing with a guy I was riding with yesterday who knew someone who was keeping the miles off his H-D FXSTS CVO 'Springer' - hoping it would appreciate in value ... WTF
Each to their own, I suppose.

"They're" either assured of the residuals when resale time comes; or, there's a a trapload of cash profit on each bike sale?
I'm assuming it's a new registered bike... not pre-loved.

I agree with most thats been said about PCP's but there is another side to the PCP as it can protect you from crashing residuals as well. Lets assume that you pay £1300 deposit and £189 per month you will pay £10183 or £217 per month 'rent' for the bike.

After the 47 months, if the residuals are worth less than the final balloon payment, you hand back the bike and move on assuming its a guaranteed value. If the bike is worth more you stump up the final payment.

If you have the money to start with and just didnt want to sink it into the bike, £10K in the bank should earn around £300 per year in interest (thats being conservative) so you will get an additional 4 years of interest, so a total of £1200 in interest before the balloon payment is due.

The numbers in the quoted example seem odd, as total amount by the customer would pay including the payment are £21,614 on a purchase price of £20,645 not the £18,045 quoted, so am a little suspicious of them unless Im missing something (there is a deposit contribution from BMW for £1300, but that doesnt fully account for the difference).

Assuming a cash buyer wouldnt get any better discount (and it seems to be the way that cash isn't king now due to finance kick backs), then I can't really see an issue with the PCP offer.

I was really tempted with the Africa twin offer a few years ago as that seemed even more of a bargain and its obviously being used as a way to inflate sales where the manufacturers want to. Norton also did the same recently and that also looked like a pretty good offer if you wanted that type of bike.

I think a bit of both. Yes, new registration, not pre-owned or pre-reg.

Or you could do what I did. Find an approved used two year old bike you like, agree a price for your current bike with the dealer, pay the difference in cash (£10k in my case) and ride away owning it outright to do with it as you please.

Choose your time right when sales are slow and you could save yourself quite a bit.

But I can afford it, I simply choose to rent my daily user on a PCP, that way I get to ride a brand new bike every 2-3 years without having to worry about the value of the bike I currently ride. Having done this for many years I have never had a mileage penaly because I have either Sold the bike or traded it against the next PCP. All have been over the agreed max mileage and all have been valued above the GFV.

Chicken dinner in my book(y)

Got a garage full of them, all significantly older than 2 years now costs me a bloody fortune :ROFLMAO:

There’s something in your posts which don’t add up, to me. 🥕🥕
But, that’s my problem, not yours 👍

Decided not to go for the 1300. As lovely as it was, I didn't think it was worth the £2k deposit PLUS, the joke of an insurance premium to insure it.

I'll stick to my "old" 1250 and pay it off as planned :D

Really think that that is the sensible thing to do.....get off the PCP merry-go-round.

The 1250 is still a really superb bike IMO.

Sure the 1300 is shiny and new for now, at least until something else comes along, but it’s a LOT of money to change.

Most of the things I ownright. But yeah, I didn't think the 1300 was THAT big of a change for the cost outlay over a 1250. Not like the 1250 is a bad bike!

Did 150 miles yesterday to Yorkshire dales and it made me realize how much I love my bike

Yeah I think it was the insurance that killed my idea of switching. I prefer to pay my insurance yearly and just laughed at the cost.

Dare I ask how much of an increase in premium it is over the 1250 ?
