Instead of staying in Porto for 2 days (big city), I may consider Viana do Castelo further north.
Anyone stayed there?

I have started you a fresh, separate thread, not least as you have switched countries :D

Anyone stayed there?

Yes, in the Pousada on the hill near the Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus / Mount of Santa Luzia

Just one night as my first stop in Portugal after riding across Asturia and Galicia from Navia. I didn't go down to the city. Looks very industrial with a busy port. The Pousada was good and I had the set menu. Not cheap but I like to fit in a couple of Parador or the similar Pousada on a trip. View lovely, over the church to the bay.

Like Wessie, we stayed at the Pousada at the top of the S.Luzia Hill. It's a slightly strange place, but we were well looked after & the views are excellent. IIRC there is a pool in season.

There is a funicular down to the town, closed for maintenance when we were last there, so we walked down & took a cab back. Useful exercise after a day in the saddle, a typical port town with a pleasant centre, the Republic Square & cathedral, if that's your thing. VdC was once front & centre of the cod fishing industry in N.Portugal.

I’ve stayed there too, down in town. It’s a lovely place. Very good seafood restaurant.

If you are looking at staying there I can dig out my notes for the names of the hotel and restaurant

Dig ‘em out anyway, please. Someone may well find them useful.

We stayed at the Casa Melo Alvim

It was very nice, we were on 690's doing what is now part of the Portuguese TET so we were pretty grubby, and they didn't discriminate. It's in the city so good access.

Here's the bike parking!IMG_0609.JPG

We had a nice lobster supper at the Restaurant O Pescador

Here's some gratuitous shots of bikes and scenery
