Hi,

Just passed through Hungary, and it seams that vignettes are not only used for motorways and expressways, on 46 (green sign), which is a 2 lane road of not very great standard, there was a check for vignettes - if they are anal I might have a surprise waiting for me when I get home.

At the border crossing at Sátoraljaújhely (Slovakia / Hungary) I was told that I would not need a vignette for going to Romania, so much for trusting what people tell you.

Just passed from from Slovakia to hungary on to Eger and Budapest and on to Romania and no one asked for vignette or offered to sell
Going into Romania saw a sign for Romanian cartax and all foreign drivers queeing but whw it was my turn after 15 minutes was told not necessay for motos

In Hungary they have cameras which control number plate and computer can very fast find this people which doesn't pay roads ,but this is for highway. Bike has to pay half of car payment. Once I was going in Hungary around Budapest on highway very late in the night in the end of March and I didn't got any letter to my home address so maybe they cannot recognize bike numbers , or it is to early:cool: In Romania I new that this road tax is mainly for cars.
Greetings Marek

NEVER transit hungary on the highways without a 'matrica' - the cost for bikes is very low .... but if you get stopped at a random check where they pull everybody of the highway and either scan your number or as a foreigner ask for your reciept ..and you have not got one - they will fine you big style. they can even take credit cards!! dont think you will get option for a bill sent home!!
There used to be a zone on the highways very close to cities where you do not need one - to enable movement of local traffic.
