This is also posted in the Radiator Hose thread.

I was riding up to Donington for the Day of Champions last week, when as I signed in at Mallory Park, I noticed coolant spillage on the side of the engine. I saw that the hose was only just on, and when the day was over ( including 3 brisk laps of Donington ) I called the nearest dealer, Colin Pidcock in Long Eaton. They agreed to do the mod for me the next day. You can only image just how angry I was when I found out from them that Vines had signed the mod off on the 6000 mile service, which I had in Feb. The engineer at Pidcocks wasn't too chuffed either and said he would be calling Vines on the Monday. I was fortunate that this happened in the relative civilisation of Nottingham. While it was in, the mech noticed that my head bearings were very loose, and tightened them up for me. I had also reported this to Vines in Feb, and the bike came out worse than it went in.

To say that I am p1ssed off with Vines is an understatement.

I would also like to make known that I am fully appreciative of Pidcocks and the excellent service that they provided to me. Highly recommend them

Head bearings are not tighted to a specific NM (the nuts are though if thats what you mean?). The bearings are tighted so that the slack is removed and is tested by play (lack of) and friction on the handlebars (turns smoothly with small effort) turning them left/right to full lock.
(well thats how ive been taught to do head bearings anyway)

yes that works, it was an easy thing to adjust, the bearings where zero tightened.

I have heard about Vines and also live in Aldershot, but hence why i use Bahnstormers of Farringdon. Very freindly :beerjug: Hope to see you around the shot sometime.

You're lucky it wasn't Mansfield, where everyone is everyones relative and ther's nothing civil about it.

Are you extracting the michael? I might live in Aldershot, but I was born and raised in Mansfield !

Mansfield. Home of the Birchall Brothers, 2009 World Sidecar Champions.

Just an update on this. I took the 800 in for it's 12k on Mon and after booking it in, the Vines staff couldn't apologise enough and gave me a 50pc discount on the service, so with the hire of a 1200 for the day ( what a crap machine BTW, the 800 is far better ) the 12k service was done for 119 quid.

Result and fair play to Vines.

Just curious....why did you entrust your 800 to Vines after their earlier performance? :nenau

Couple of reasons, firstly being the chance to redeem themselves, which they did. Secondly my commute takes me through Guildford and it's handy. Thirdly, I work in London and Park Lane are about twice the price, so they can poke it. Fourth, until this incident, I had no problems and I also bought the bike there.

There you go.

quite an interesting thread. possibly shows that:
- we all make mistakes and one incident doesn't necessarily imply complete incompetance
- Sorting out mistakes is a crucial as trying to avoid them.

And also good customer service pays dividends, so I'll be going back again.

Thank you for the second chance. We looked into this and found that he had not done the hose recall as confirmed with Derek at Pidcocks. This was an oversight on the service and rather than teling anybody that he forgot :blast he wrote the job card as if he had done it. I was not a happy Bunny :mad anyway he no longer works for Vines Motorrad. Hope our good service may continue :)

:thumb never been to Vines myself, but nice post Darren.

I am pleased you had good service from them, i would not expect anything less.

Call me bias, but Pidcocks rule ok....i bought my bike from them and they have done nothing but provide me with excellent value for money and brillient staff.....Richie in sales, rules (but don't tell Dave in the service dept)..

Last time i popped in, i was there 2 hours, just chatting to customers etc...(trying to get a job there really)
