That's it really! There's a Volcano erupting in Eyjafjallajokull, Iceland at the moment and i'd like to see it before it goes dormant.

I'm adventure cycle camping on my Thorn Sherpa for two weeks in May and wonder if the fissure will still be active although i'm concerned about the farmers and their livestock in the area. All we have to worry about in Scotland is a bit of inclement weather!!

The prediction is that this eruption will continue for while as the pressure is still building  under the mountain.

So if you are lucky mate it will still be going on when you arrive.

The worst prediction is that the neighbour Katla will erupt as an aftermath of this eruption the we do not know what will happen.

Here is a link on a live webcam of the eruption.

We still have few bikes available this season.

Islensku Eldfjall!

Hi Eythor,

Thanks for the link i've been watching them every day this week without fail. I've always been fascinated by Icelandic volcanoes since watching the Heimey eruption in 1973. I eventually made it to Vestmannaeyjar on my GS in 2005!

I keep thinking about your bikes at 'Biking Viking' and I am trying to resist the temptation.:D

Cycle touring v Motorcycle touring goes rouighly 5 to 1. Five days cycling equals 1 day motorcycling! It'll take me at least two days to cycle from Keflavik to Vik(138 miles).

Eldhraun

That's life insurance not the pension!

The adverts filmed in Iceland not far from the volcano on Eyafjallajökull at Skogafoss(forest falls) Eldhraun(fire lava) and Dyrhólaey(something with a hole in it.....):blast

It's just got a whole lot worse! The first volcano has stopped erupting but a new one has started under the ice causing major flooding aswell as washing away a section of the ringroad near Skogar.

No one is flying from Scotland or Norway either!

A bit of a newcomer to the sport then:augie, I go back as far as watching Surtsey on the black and white telly in '63:thumb

It's like 9/12 here today it's incredibly quite here under the flight path for London City airport. I've only heard one helicopter and it's nice to see blue sky above with no high altitude aeroplane graffitti cluttering it up.

Just anounced on news that UK airspace is shut down until at least 6pm.

Mrs Cookie needs to head back into town for tapas and Cava - worse places to be stuck :thumb2

Andres

that's exactly what she's done. plane to paris in the morning and then eurostar 1st class to st. pancras :)

Hmm, had planned to get out of here tomorrow am to fly to the dutch west indies for my dad's 80th. Schiphol is starting to close down from 19:00 tonight so tomorrow may at best prove interesting travelwise, if we get out at all.

Still like volcanoes though, some great pictures on that site :thumb2
