Volunteerting for Blood Bikes and ROSPA

Kevin Williams’s Science of Being Seen book for motorcyclists is worth every penny, too. It’s a concise book with lengthy benefits.

Kevin was asked to contribute to the Biker Down syllabus on how to avoid SMIDSYs, and he’s lectured in New Zealand on the subject. He’s worth reading.

(y) Ordered. Thanks, you can never have too much info on this. :)

It’s always useful to get a third party to examine your ride once in a while, even more so the longer you have been riding.

Often unnoticed habits like changing gear during an overtake might only have a once in a gazillion chance of going wrong.

But then again…how many bikers, how many mikes and how many years they’ve been unwittingly doing it increases the chances that it’ll happen to a lottery.

It does no harm to be reminded.

It's worth looking up "Reg Local's" videos on you tube. His content is well structured, clear and informative. He has one on SMIDSYs which is excellent. Other valuable sources of information (for IAM members) is the content on the IAM website within a member's dashboard entitled "further information" which contains useful hints and tips.

All ROSPA/IAM training modules are based on the Police Roadcraft Manual for motorcyclists. It goes into more detail than the course logbooks. They describe more the "what to do" aspects, but are a bit lacking in some of the "how to do" aspects, with some of the reasoning explained, some of which the Roadcraft manual describe:

The other bit of information that as an N/O I find many associates are lacking in, is up to date knowledge of the current Highway Code, so if not aready in possession of one, that's another helpful resource, and essential reading for anyone about to sit their test or take on further training.
