Waht is this 2006 GSA worth?

just run in......!

I like it!:thumb

Guess it would be neat to turn up at a GSer's meet at the far end of the 'county' with ten times the mileage of everyone elses bike.:augie

£4k or £14k for a shiny new one? Hell most of the bits are even the same as a shiny new one.........!

That bike is very much like mine - although mine has new front engine cover and only 55k miles. You can't have mine for 4k!

Mine has been very reliable - did 4,000 miles in 10 days, 2 up, fully loaded and not a single issue.

If you can get this much bike for 4k, I think that would be a whole lot of bike :thumb2

I've been out bid... only by £100 but I'll keep my eye on it and see what it goes for. I'll have a word at dealership 2mora - the smell of cold hard cash can go a long way to making a deal.

I honestly don't think its worth much more, especially when you factor in the engine cover repair/repaint and a set of GSA panniers: easily getting on for £5K. And then there's the potential 2006 model and high mileage problems?

Nevertheless, I've seen a very nice 2009 F800GS with 21K miles on it with GSA panniers for £5k (probably a UKGSer)... and it's probably more suitable for what I have in mind anyway.

Its not all that...

After having a bit of a look over it I am certain it''s not worth any more than £4k IMHO. It is in reasonable condition for its mileage but the salesman said he'd let it run its course on Ebay. Although he would end it early for the right offer.

I think it would take a bit of TLC and the salesman, although friendly, seemed a bit disinclined about letting me take it out, perhaps even a little reticent? There was no chance of any kind of warranty, it was strictly sold as seen and their own mechanics had not even looked over it - I didn't even get to start it.

In conclusion, I think I'll wait for a newer model with less miles to come along. I didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling so it's probably not for me - right?. I want something a little nicer and I am willing to pay more just not for this one.

Maybe I should subscribe and see what's up for sale here? Thanks for all the advice guys. :thumb2

Something will turn it always dose on here. pay your subs and you can have all access to the for sale section

and also.....

Hi guys

I saw that a few of you have been looking at the listing & thought I'd help out!
The bike bike is being sold on eBay for a reason - it's not up to our normal retail standards. It has been looked after mechanically but has done almost 80k & looks like it has. There isn't anything untoward with the bike & in fact our technicians HAVE looked at this bike (lots of times!)
It isn't in need of anything apart from a service (apart from some TLC).
The final drive assembly was replaced in May 2010 under warranty at 63,197 miles so should be good for a while yet!

Feel free to come over & have a look & if you want to, arrange a ride on it. But the bike will not be sold early, will run it's full course on eBay & be sold subject to the terms laid down by eBay.

Incidentally - I reckon it's worth £6k :augie

Cheers

TJ

Keep looking there are better bikes out there for just a little more money.
I will be in the market for a bike soon this year and I will not even contemplate a bike with that many miles even if it is a minter.
My theory is this, people say these engines are great fro high miles, mabey so but the rest of the bike has done that milage too, so brakes bearings etc etc etc will all be 72k old and no matter how much polishing you do when a bearing wants to go it will.

I am planning on keeping the bike a while and doing lots of european trips so milage will need to be low as it will more than likely be high maliage when I get rid. No point buying a real high milager if you plan to do a few yourself.

The alternative view is: I'm gonna put a whole lot of miles on it anyway, I may as well get one that has already taken the depreciation hit so I won't mind when I put a bunch of miles on it :thumb

Worked for me - mine came with 30k and I've put another 25k on and will keep riding it rather than be worried about how much damage I'm doing to the resale value :thumb2

Agreed and that's fair.

Not what I was told but that could be a simple mistake?

That's reassuring to know.

...Incidentally - I reckon it's worth £6k :augie...

I was surprised to see some 2006 models on biketrader in this £6K ball park but they did have considerably less miles and were obviously in better condition for it.

Agreed, that's why I took a gander at it and I'm not that concerned with mileage if it's well serviced, which this is. But the rest of the bike has also done the mileage too, as has been mentioned. I'm not that bothered by depreciation TBH although the GS' do seem to hold their value quite well.

I still don't think its worth much more than £4k but who knows what it will reach, it's Ebay after all. But I'll be surprised if it went for much more than £5K.

you are dreaming if you think that bike is worth only 4000, the mileage is no issue at all,the cosmetics are no issue at all, at 5000 that is still a bargain :thumb2 i wouldn sell my 1150 for 4000 with similar milage

meaning what? from your first post you have no idea what this is worth, you show me an adventurer with that service history for anything like 4000.:thumb2

Not at all, I didn't intimate that I am totally clueless just that I'm no expert. I merely wanted an independent idea of its value from a group of informed people that know these bikes better than me and are not afraid to be honest and critical.

I have acknowledged that there are 2006 models going for around the £6K price tag but these are in considerably better condition with significantly lower miles. I think I even postulated that it may get £5k, it may very well be worth this, or perhaps more? Just not to me is what I'm saying. And it appears this is the consensus.

Now maybe the consensus and I are wrong but lets not pretend that all potential GS buyers are clued up and that they always get a bargain or that said buyer never pays over the odds for their steed. Emotions are bountiful when it comes to the love between a man and a fine German motorcycle. Its's just my opinion but something is worth whatever someone will pay for it - but its only worth that to the individual.

And I could show you why its not worth that to me, but somebody might steal her from me?

That's all - Over & Out! :beerjug:

Stephen, its the right time of year to bag yourself a bargain... and if it were me I'd be looking for a mint reasonably low mileage example without servo ABS ( I know most have no trouble with it, but its the solution to a problem that never existed)

If you've got a finite amount of dosh to play with find something in the same ball park and chance your luck :thumb

Thanks mate. I am really torn between the GSA and the F800GS... I love riding the GSA but the F800 is probably more practical for the solo, off road stuff in the middle of and back of nowhere. Thing is, no other bike including the F800GS, speaks to me like the GSA. I know that sounds dumb but I'm sure people here, on this forum, know what I'm saying? I've got a few months before my adventure window opens... :thumb

I see what your saying about the depreciation side, so buying a bike with 30K and putting on 25K makes 50K still a whole lot less than the bike the OP was looking at with 72K, now add 25K to that and thats alot of miles.
From reading on here these engines are pretty bullet proof and good for that sort of milage, but is the rest of the bike, alot of maintenance issues come with that sort of milage surely??

Everyone is different in they see a high milage bargain and buy it, me I would rather go low milage and do the miles myself, it seems with these bikes that milage does not make all that much difference in price compared with other makes styles.
