WANDERLUST WORLDMAP

2610 unit

Hi

will these maps work with the Garmin 2610 with city nav ver 8?

regards

will it work?

Hi

will these maps work with the Garmin 2610 sorry, no idea BUT

IF you have the ability to upload maps into Mapsource then ONTO your GPS unit, then I can't see any reason why not.

with city nav ver 8?
You can have Wanderlust maps loaded on the same memory chip as V8 BUT the maps are not 'transparent' so will you will have to chose which maps you want your gps unit to read before you are going to use it by going to your user map settings and 'tick' the maps you wish to use. (and untick those you do not).
That is assuming your GPS unit allows you to do this. You can with the 276C and the 60CSX

I have found that if you leave all the different maps like V8, W, morocco topo, Greece topo etc all ticked it can turn off your GPS when the find option is used; I am guessing there may be a memory overflow or internal 'punch-up for space' issue. (sorry I am not a techky!!)

However it is worth mentioning that this product is not in competition with City Nav. 8/9 etc but rather offers you mapping OUTSIDE Europe.
Hope this helps you.

I discovered that every time you try to install, it changes your password...

Perhaps log into the website, get them to send you your password... then have another go with that one?

Al...

Did this and was mailed my original password - so am still unable to complete installation of v1.6

When it changes your password, it will email the new one to your registered email address.

If you had installed a previous version (either full or as a test version), you need to uninstall that (via add/remove programs in the control panel) before you install v1.6

As I originally reported I had uninstalled v1.5. Have received no new password, presumably 'cos the attempted installation had not reached the point where a new password is issued

Wonder if the SmellyBiker Customer Service department has any thoughts on this?

Hi,

The password is changed right at the beginning of the installation, so if it didnt send you a new one then either your accoutn details were wrong or for some reason it couldnt check them online.

Go to the website and request a password reminder then try again with the details it emails you...thatll make sure youre using the correct password.

If that doesnt work, the the installer might be prevented from checking your account by firewall software on your machine. I use McAffee and it stops any applications from using the network connection unless theyve been given permission.

Let me know how this goes....you have the dubious honor of being the first to have install problems, and if theres a broken thing then I need to fix it fast.

Out of contact for a while....

Hi folks,

The time has come to change continent so will be on a boat for the coming week-ish.

I will check email the first chance I get but its going to take me a while to get back to you....normal service will resume from Central America.

Wanderlust is moving to a new server

Just so you all know, the Wanderlust maps will be moving to a new server over the next few days.

Some downtime is inevitable but I'll keep that to a minumum, the actual move will happen at stupid-o-clock this weekend so with luck not many will notice.

Cheers,

2610 and wanderlust

I have a 2610 with all of CN Europe (V7) loaded on a 2Gig card. I then loaded a few selected areas of the world map onto a 128Meg card to try it. Not routable, but great detail for almost anywhere!

Going to put the whole Wanderlust World Map on a suitable size of card separate from CN so both available with a quick card change.

I am unlikely to visit many far flung places in the near future, but Wanderlust is a great portable world atlas on my sat nav!!

Its done & all seems to be OK.

There might be some residual strangeness as the DNS changes spread around the world but there's no avoiding that - if that happens just be patient and try again later, it'll fix itself in a few hours.

Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan

Hi folks,

at first I am sorry for my English - it is not my mother tongue.

I have one question:

"What is the Wanderlust World Map coverage of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan?"

I am planning a trip to these countries and the Wanderlust World Map seems to be the best map for this area. I do not own GPSR at the moment so I can not load the map into GPSR and look at it.:nenau

Thanks very much for reactions.

It looks to be pretty good to me.
Send me an email through the address on my website (to avoid me getting spam!) www.planitearth.co.uk and I'll send you a pdf image of the area from Wanderlust.

How much is too much....

Working on verision 1.7 at the moment & also a worldwide topo map - topo maps are nice to have but they're bigger & thats got me thinking about ways to make downloads easier.

Whats the maximum size you would consider downloading ?

Here's what I've come up with so far but if you've suggestions I'd like to hear them :-

I'm going to split the worldmap into regions and each will be a seperate download to make that easier (thinking of Americas, Europe/Africa, & Asia/Down Under - but open to suggestions).

The topo data will get the same region split as the worldmap, there will be a set of transparent maps that should work with any others.

A combined map with the same region split that includes the worldmap AND topo data - these will be the biggest maps.

Hopefully this will give good flexibility - worldmap, worldmap + topo, worldmap including topo, or just topo data to use with other maps.

Any ideas/suggestions welcome as always.

Bob,
Downloading from home, once you're doing more than 50mb, it's all the same in that unless you have broadband it's going to take years. If you do have broadband, then you can just leave it on, so the sky's the limit.
When on the road, most places that your maps are going to be useful for are likely to have dialup or slow connections and it's here that smaller files will be desireable.
Is there any way to just download v1.7 as an addition to v1.6 This would mean that we weren't redownloading the stuff that hasn't changed.
I expect that you've already looked into this option and that it's much harder to code.
Looking forward to trying it out on my way to Australia!

Normal service will be resumed asap......

Hi all,

Just to let you know I've been changing lots of stuff on the smellybiker.com website - amongst other things the maps section is now part of the forum.

Please bear with me while I move everyone's accounts over to the new site, its a bit fiddly and is taking a while.

Sorted !

Looks like the new system is working well.

I've transferred over all the 'members' accounts so you'll see an 'activation email' in your inbox - click on the link & you'll have access again.

Those who registered & but did'nt sign up will unfortunatly have to register again, there was just no way to transfer them safely. Sorry about that.
