Morning,
Mate of mine from Birmingham (Wolverley ) and myself, base ourselves in Dent once a year and usually have a 3 day bimble around the Dales, North Yorks Moors, and the Lakes.

I thought it might make a change this year to venture up into the North Pennines. Sadly this is not an area I know well, and whilst I'm quite happy to plan a route on a suck it and see basis, it would be nice to have a few pointers toward really good roads.

What ya got ?

Ta,

Steve

Map out Steve and all are pretty great, in Pennines and Weardale

When ya going, I may be free for a day out in North Pennines

The usual: B6277 from Middleton-in-Teesdale to Alston (worth a stop), then A686 to Hartside (just to say you've done it :) ) & Penrith; A689 from Alston to A68 then...

...the back roads: A689 to Eastgate (give me a wave as you pass, or my local, the Cross Keys does B&B and I'll see you for a beer) then up the fell to Rookhope, Allenheads, Allendale, Hexham (Wentworth Cafe worth a stop). When you get to the A69, a few places worth a visit: Hexham, Corbridge, Roman forts on Hadrian's Wall at Chesters, Housteads, Birdoswald.

Back down via A68, then A6278 to Stanhope, Eggleston, Barnard Castle (worth a stop).

Other nice runs, B6276 from Middleton-in-Teesdale to Brough; A686 Haydon Bridge to Alston; Penrith to Brampton on the B6412/6413; from Stanhope up Crawleyside Bank (B6278), turn left at the top along Meadow's Edge to Blanchland then B6306 to Hexham.

Enjoy, give me a PM when you're going and I may join you.

+1 Stanhope to Eggleston (or other way round) one of my favouritist roads ever :D

Please, please. Don't tell him any more for goodness sake:blast

(+1 wot Magnet and espesh cookie says though. )

My couple of pennorth.,

Dent to Hawes first, then up and over Buttertubs down to Thwaite, north west over to Nateby then up to Brough, Middleton on/in Teesdale, then coOkie's suggestions. Empty roads everywhere and to me even better than the Dales for riding.:thumby:

Cheers folks got a rough route sorted now, I'll tweek it over the next couple of weeks with the aid of Google street view.

JB and Cook1e, it'll most probabley be Saturday the 12th Sept.

We usually stay at Dent for 4 nights , Monday to Thursday and have a ride out on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Sadly due to other commitments we have to go Wed- Sun this year, so one of the days out will have to be a Saturday.

Again many thanks,

Steve.
