I finally rode the bike last night, in the dark, first time since owning it. I had settled to add extra lights, but am now convinced.

I know the TT additional units are costly, and some people have said the xenon main beam is too narrow.

Could some one who has both the xenon and the fog fitted contact me, i would dearly love to discuss a few things with them.

Particularly regarding the TT fog lamp.

My dilema is, i was looking at FF50 driving /FF50 fog.. light combo on a migsel bar. But after last night, and nearly winding up in a hedge and not being an electrical whiz, ( in fact electraphobe)..
I am looking at my options for buying/fitting.

Cheers.. one unsteady rocks.. recovering from near hedge experience! :(

Hi,

I have the TT fogs and I have seen the xenon. The fogs give you added light spread in front of the bike, not much extra far up front.

The xenon light is a canon, loads of light! Main disadvantage is the price and the fact that if you use them and there is oncoming traffic, you'll have to switch them off immediately and you'll drive into a black wall more or less, as the difference with stock light is so big. Perfect for really dark an desolated roads, not so handy in traffic.

The FF50 spots are good too (I have those), much cheaper and more useable in traffic. I'd say get the xenon if you do a lot of off-roading or deserted roads in the dark, otherwise get the FF50's.

Cheers,
Michel

TT fog light

Does anyone use the TT Fog light as a running light?
Can it be angled down to not dazzle oncoming traffic?

Migsel, whats the beam pattern like with the xenon, i found that standard light was too narrow?

I dont mind having a light cannon as long as it covers a big area.. i want to see where the heck i am going..

I have the fog lights (2 of them) on all the time, no problem.

On the Hella site you can see beam patterns in their "Light Tunnel".

This should be the Micro DE Xenon:

These are FF50 spots:

And Micro DE fogs:

And by the way:

* Touratech fogs = Hella Micro DE fog

* Touratech Xenon = Hella Micro DE Xenon

They are identical lights, with some extra Touratech mounting hardware.

Yup, the cutoff on the DE fogs is very sharp and its easy to adjust so it fills out the low beam pattern.

I'd take a look at some one else's HID before you buy though - they are outrageous.

Can you..

Does anyone know if you can get,, ( going ultra expensive now admittedly..)

Two TT Fogs, mounted left and right, with the addition extra TT Xenon.. ?

Andy how do you find the beam patter on the HID conversion?

I am a bit loathed to replace the main light, as i never know how long i plan to keep the bike, so would like to be able to take the Xenon with me when i changed,, since it costsssssss sooooo much..!

Is the xenon additional tt unit, have a wide beam pattern so you get coverage even when cornering, the one big problem i have with the standard unit now?

The conversion means you change the whole unit so if you change your bike you just replace it with the old unit.

It lights up the whole road as opposed to just a beam but unfortunatly can't see round bends,it does give you enough light to READ the road ahead though.

Bends

Andy, when you say, cannot see round bends..

Do you mean the beam is as narrow as the original headlight unit? Or is it wider?

i found that if i went into a bend and lent the bike over, as i was going around the bends, the width of the main beam, meant the edges of the road started to drift into darkness..

So wish to improve the light width as well as power.. The xenon certainly is not matched by anything else under illumination.

Are there any pics of your conversion, or account of what was done? If not no worries, if there is, could you let me know the link,, i fancy a read..

PS where did you get the conversion unit, was it TT?

As you can see the unit is a direct replacement.

Its not a difficuld conversion to do Touratech will supply you with all nessesary information (you need to ask them for a translation)

How do you find the glare

Looks nice Andy..

How do you find the glare..
I have a tobinator mounted screen and the main beam reflects upward a lot of light off the beak up and under the scree,, not good. I am afraid i am going to make this worse if i replace the main beam.. hence my slight preference to the side mounting external unit..

But i wish to make sure i can still see when i have the main dipped..

How far to the TT fogs project?

Don't get any glare,
The Fog's don't project to far but then they arnt supposed to, but they do help.

My two pence worth for what its worth. Don't buy any sort of fog light if maximum road illumination is what UR looking for.

As the name would suggest they are for poor visibilty conditions, (fog prehaps?) therefore they give a very low flat, shallow beam pattern.

However, they are a most excellant light for other road users to see you, thats in both daylight and at night time. I think that it is fair to say that judgeing by the amount that I have sold, most people use them a daytime running lights or as a minor supplement to the OE headlight.

The plan so far..

My plan so far is to put 50% brighter bulbs in care of bigtrailey guy, if you got my PM Alan..

Then going to aska local adv rider who i meet on saturday with the TT external main and fog light, for a nightime meet up to compare lights on a carpark..

Depending on how i feel about them. I will either, go with a xenon main beam upgrade and work some way of blackenning the beak, or the external unit..

Eitherway will go with a fog..

I idea was if i can angle the fog down to thus not blind oncoming traffic it may help suppliment the dipped beam so when i turn the xenon off, i should have enought extra light to ride with..

The other option is to go FF50's driving and fogs... with motoswitch and migsel bar.

Ideally i would love to be able to compare a setup of this kind to my unmoded standard and bike with the xenon TT unit.. but this world aint perfect..

Did however get told by Blue Bell crewe, they would fitt them, but woulnt be able to give a quote on the price of the job due to the unkown time factor. ( Fair comment i guess )..

I have 2 TT fogs and a Zenon Main-Beam conversion AWSOME
Hi Andy,

Have you ever compared the Xenon high beam to the separate Touratech Xenon lamp?

Is it not a problem if you switch off the high beam, that you "drive ino a wall" because the difference with low beam is too big?

Cheers,
Michel

Hi there, is there a setup that allows aux lamps to be set up on the forks so you get better visibility when cornering on narrow country lanes. I hate powering into the void!

Off at a slight tangent but I've got a Nippy Norman Xenon in place of the dipped beam. It means I've got better lights on all the time and I rarely need to bother with the standard high beam.

It's easy to fit and can be removed when I change the bike.
