I prefer Daytona touring boots for most trips but for anything resembling unpaved roads, I have become pretty fond of my Alpinestars Tech 7's. They aren't waterproof which I thought initially might be a problem but Sealskinz socks solved that problem perfectly

Lindstrands

I just bought a pair of these at Bykebitz.com for £99 as they're half the price of Daytona Travel Stars with the difference being they've got 'outlast' as opposed to Gore-Tex. They've not arrived yet and could be utterly crap so who knows. If they're worthy of your money, I'll post again...

Daytona Trans Open GTX

You won't be disappointed - they're the business :bounce1

I sometimes just take mine out of the box to look at them :blast

I have used these boots for about 5 years now and ride all year round.

I can fully recommend them.

my bad

I thought Outlast was a Phase Change Material to keep you warm or cool, rather than a waterproof membrane like Goretex?

Sorry chris, i meant the 'Dryway membrane' rather than the Outlast which is as you say 'phase change material'. Thanks for the clarification...

if i was going to have one pair of "bike" boots only, i'd have daytona evos. good protection, mine have never leaked in 30,000+ miles (including winter / wet riding)... only downside is the soles are showing signs of ware....i reckon the sole will be the first thing to let them down. (you can get them re-soled but this takes ages apparently.......it's my first pair so i don't know)

alpinestars vectors are really really really comfy - but not water proof (not even a little bit!) and really hot if you walk round in them in summer..... the plastic "ski type" straps are really nice / easy / quick to use and cheap to replace if they do break (i only broke one once - and that was after a "medium" off.) i would buy another pair just because they are so incredibly comfortable.

i know it's bad - but i nearly always wear mountaineering boots on the bike, the ones i have are

great hardwearing boots, no protection whatsoever, but warm in winter, comfortable in summer, waterproof all day long in the rain ( i mean london to glasgow in driving rain is no problem) and i can wear them at work when i get where i'm going (no need to carry extra pair of shoes to...... i know - no protection will rule them out for 99.5% bikers)

because of the above (lack of protection) mentioned i ordered some alpinestars tech 2s last week, although rigid with proper protection for foot / ankle i am hoping i will get away with wearing them at work .....i'll let you know how i get on after a few thousand miles in them.

Daytona Roadstar GTX are rubbish started leaking after about 1 year!

Altberg are much better boot for half the price!

In my experience you either tucked your trousers into the top of your boots or were just unlucky.
I've just sold a pair of Daytona-Trans Open as I wanted something smaller, shorter and lighter, but I couldn't fault their comfort, build quality or water-proofing. They were hardly showing any wear either.
I've bought some new Daytona Alkon XCR from Hein Gericke for £180. Perfect.
My dad bought a second hand pair of Daytonas about 5 years ago or more, and has covered about 60000 miles in them. They are still water-proof but could do with a re-furb.

No I have tried them many times! They actually leak around the back of the heels. I assume its going through the flexible bit! This is due to the GS throwing more muck/water at the back of my boots than the front!

yep

I'm a big fan of the Sidi Couriers and they've survived Alaska, Morocco, Ireland, Scotland, lots of green lanes, Salisbury Plain, daily commuting, and still going strong after 2 1/2yrs. I couldn't get on with the Tech10 Alpinestars and sold them recently and will likely use the funds for another pair of Couriers.

Me too, riding through the worst rain and sheeite over past couple of weeks, totaly dry and comfy.:thumb2

According to the sale person at Infinity they are not waterproof due to the way the soles are attached to the main boot ( stitching ):nenau .

Try these TCS beauties

Just got myself a pair of new TCS (Oxtar) Infinity at £160 - very comfy and looking tuff-enuff!

Looking through the 2008 BMW rider equipment, I see that the BMW's Santiago boots are an exact copy of these with shiny BMW logos at £40 more!

Welcome to the forums BM Donator, and can I be the first to say can you donate a BM to me please? :D

Nice looking boots.

The trouble with the Daytonas (or the trouble with me) is that I've got narrow feet and although they were spot on for length, it felt like I was wearing wellies i.e. sloppy around the heels. Thicker socks didn't help.

Because they have to change their name this year .. these boots were bound to be on sale at shows ..

and they were! For £90!!!!!

Went on Sunday to the london bike show because people said it was shit .. so didn't want to waste a saturday ... sold out of my size when I got there :(

Great boot

Altbergs ... nothing else comes close for the price, and after sales service, well apart from the comfort :thumb2

I suppose a personal visit to the factory where they are made is another bonus if your are from up north.
