Wanting an F650GS on a budget. Tempt me.

Hey guys,

I'm currently interested in getting an F650GS but I'm 18 years old (insurance isn't too bad no the F650 though), and on a budget.

To put it into perspective, I'm also considering a GPZ500s, and could happily go and buy one when I get paid tomorrow.

So, here's what money is looking like for me atm:

14th Sept: £1500
28th Sept: £2100 total
14th Oct : £2500 total

Do you think I could realistically get started with a F650 by the time I get £2500? How much would you say to budget for each aspect of getting on?

Honestly can't wait to be on a bigger bike .

Any advice is hugely appreciated!

restricting an F650 is dead easy and it'll cost you about £5 for the part

Nice blue one on here for sale and you can easily resrict it and all it does is reduce the top speed a wee bit and keep the rev counter out of the red zone.

When Mrs P's license 'matured' after two years we left the restictor on her 05F650GS......It didn't bother me and i was used to riding an HP2.......!

An F650GS is good enough to take you around the world and back.......One of my friends is doing this right now and all she did was fit some knobbly yres and some alloy boxes etc!

I may be selling my GS650 Dakar sometime soon...it is on a 51 plate but believe it or not,has only been used twice ! and about 300 miles on it.
I bought it new from BMW dealer,picked it up on a Saturday and did a few miles,went for a run on the Sunday...put it in garage and for personal reasons at the time,never used it and it went further and further into the garage and never got used again.
I also have Touratech frames,two aluminium cases,bar risers,lockable oil filler cap...all not fitted but BMW heated grips are.Just bought a new battery for it but not fitted yet.
It's on a SORN at the moment.
Yeah..I know it's a crime to have a bike and not use but I did have other bikes and other priorities at the time and rideout pals sold their bikes within weeks of me buying it.
I have recently bought another bike and just ordered a new GS1200 Rallye...that will be getting used....
If any interest...by anyone let me know via here and I will give contact details.

Whoops...sorry,did not realise that,only logged on a few times since registering for a browse and learn a bit more about GS1200...also to see if I can tempt myself to buy one,which I did last saturday...ordered a new GS1200 Rallye.
I was just seeing if there was any interest after reading the first post on here,hence no contact details given...so,it may be MAY be for sale sometime soon if any interest..I can post it in classifieds..must admit,in two minds.
Just subscribed a few minutes ago...have to say,just looked at top of page and cannot immediately see a classified section..where is it hidden?

Apprilia Pegasus 650, the same as an F650 but the brand name doesn't hold the same value......that could get the OP the same bike with different clothes for less money.

Not quite exactly the same Fanum, old chap.
Pegaso has a 5 Valve Head, single plug and fancy skew ground cams up top. Beemer has a 4 valve head and twin plugs.
But yes - I'd be going for the Aprilia Pegaso. "The Flying Mythos". Used to have a pair in for servicing years ago.
