Wapping wanders 12.5 miles from Wapping to Paddington, following the Regent’s Canal from Limehouse Basin

As the tunnel is long, we have to zigzag around the streets of Angel a bit, to find the tunnel’s exit:

And southwards towards Holborn and the City:

The junction at Angel, which gives its name to the tube station, is one of the busiest in London:

We’ll turn up Liverpool Road. In the 80’s I used to commute on a motorbike along Liverpool Road each day between Finchley and the City. You couldn’t have given the houses away then, mostly occupied by the large Irish population, living in bedstits. Times change:

Past the block of Islington police station;

And through the post war estate:

Found it. We are back on track:

Thank you.

I have walked stretches of the Regent’s Canal before, but never the whole 12 or so miles in one go. The great thing about it is that it’s near enough flat and free to do.

Worryingly, I am now looking at the nearly 30 miles from Limehouse to Hertford. I have done a section of it (up as far as Three Mills Island) during lockdown but that’s only as far as Stratford. I need to look at a map to see how to maybe break it into say three or four sections, returning to home by public transport to return again to restart. But it’s easy to go further too, 50 miles to Luton!

Get your push bike out, ideal for the towpaths. It's handy if it's lightish for clambering up and down steps.

That's spooky, I was only thinking this morning that my question about the Snowdon Aviary, and the rest of the "Wander", hadn't been answered yet.

I remembered yesterday, wandering back from the SE region get together, that I need to finish the thread.

They always add another dimension when you know what you're looking at or what a building was used for in a previous life
Enjoying this canal wander, carry on :beerjug:

Thank you.

I have just noticed an Irish tricolour flag, flying in St Pancras Basin. Last picture in post #29.

Loving it, Richard. Looking forward to the run across the top of the park dedicated to Mad George's son and down into the badlands of Harrow Road and Little Venice, then the redeveloped Paddington Basin. I used to run this route a couple of times a week back in the day, having left Paddington Green, through the Church Street and Lisson Green Estates and into Park Road, then down onto the 'cut' on the footpath opposite The London Central Mosque.

Onwards, towards Camden Lock.

Building work and regeneration is in evidence everywhere:

Yet another ‘Craft beer’ place:

Half a mile to go to Camden Lock and a mile and three quarters since we left Angel:

The start of uber trendy Camden Lock. To be honest, I have never quite ‘Got it’ but it’s hugely popular:
