WARNING before installing the new mapsource version 6.14.1.

This version was pre released in a beta version. Immediately it was obvious that this was not an improvement. Garmin chose to ignore and released it anyway.

Bottom line is:
This version is even SLOW on mapdrawing with new/fast computers. Older computers? Don't install.

Advantage is minimum, disadvantage is bigger.

If you must / want to ;

Change History
Changes made from version 6.13.7 to 6.14.1:

* Updated map rendering to provide visual improvements.
* Added support for U.S. National and Swedish SWREF99 grids.
* Fixed issue with setting the PC clock on Vista.
* Allowed user specified colors for routes.
* Added Brazilian Portuguese translation.
* Improved interface for managing map products and unlock codes.

And it also says......

"This patch is only applicable for all versions of the MapSource United States TOPO product. It will not affect any other MapSource product."...:D

ECM,

do you know if
* Added support for U.S. National and Swedish SWREF99 grids.
is an advantage when living/biking in Sweden?

Cheers.

I've been using this version since John originally posted the heads up about it.
Works fine on my 'ancient' P3 machine. Just a little slower than the previous one.
And I think it looks alot nicer too. They've changed the look of it quite a bit.
Besides, I really had no choice since the 6.13.7 version just wouldn't install.
Member 'Taff' had the same issue, & I believe no one came up with a solution.

Hi,

I've gone and loaded this update, but the PC is running very slow with this update, anyone know how I can un install 6.14.1 and revert back to 6.13.1?

thanks,

Don.

Hi as well :)

I'd guess that if you try and install the older version it wont let you, so you'll probably have to remove all the mapsourceprogrammes in control panel, add / remove programmes and then reinstall it. Then install the older version, which you kept a copy of, before installing 6.14.1.

Hi John,

Thanks for that, I had thought of that but wondered if anyone had a way of just un installing the 6.14 update, anyway thanks for your comments. I'll have a go at un installing mapsource and re installing later.

cheers,

don.

I haven't been called a "member" for weeks. :D

I tried to download / install the latest version lunchtime, but I'm afraid I had exactly the same problem as the previous version. :tears As it seems to be working for nearly everybody else, I'm starting to think there's something amiss with my laptop, so a call to Garmin Support is needed. Just don't look forward to hanging on for half an hour. :(

Hmmm......:nono....well....tosser then...? :augie

I reinstalled Windows XP the other day, & Mapsource now work like it used to.
Both 6.13.7 version and 6.14.1 version now install & work properly once again.
So it definitely was something wrong with the registry, that caused malfunction.

(hmm..Phil...isn't that a line from the ol' tune "The Mission"?)

I did exactly the same last week, before I saw this post :blast
I just did a 'system restore' on my PC to the day before I updated Mapsource, now back to version 6.13.7 :thumb

Having just installed 6.14.1, I find that my UK Topo maps have disappeared. In the drop-down menu, the listing for them has been replaced by United Kingdom Roads and Recreation. If I click on this, I'm prompted to insert the disc which, of course I don't have......:augie

Is this Garmin doing a Microsoft and preventing their OS (so to speak) from running dodgy software? I have all the Topo map tiles loaded onto an SD card which I have in my nüvi 760, so I can attempt to get the maps from there but will I still find that Mapsource won't open them......

Mapsource update

I missed the warnings about the update to Mapsource having been on holiday.

It may be coincidence but since the install my PC will not recognise my 2610. It reports unknown device.

I had considered that I had a hardware problem, and this may yet be the case. Anyone else suffered any similar problems.

I emailed Garmin (no reply yet) but will probably need to make a phone call.

I know the 2610 is getting a bit long in the tooth but it has served me very well and I like it as it's what I am used to. As I only use it when I travel off the Island I hope that it is repairable.

Cheers:beerjug:

I doubt it.

Grids are (sort off) the way the maps are made. So unless you are familiar with paper maps using this specific Swedish grid, it serves no purpouse. There are dozens of grids used world wide, but the only normal one is the "standard" grid.
