Just had my 12000 service done on my '07 GSA and was advised that the rear disc has warped a bit.

But 'not out of acceptable limits'

Will need to be replaced along with the pads at some time in the future.

I can feel the rear brake lever pulsing under my foot, so there is definitely something wrong.

Seems funny to me that fair wear and tear can result in any warping of a brake disc particularly over such a small mileage.

My bike is still in warranty and has been fully serviced by the dealer that I purchased it from.

Rang BMW Customer Services who advised that 'its down to the dealer to decide' if its a warranty claim, fair wear and tare or a manufacturing fault.

Looks like it's all my fault then.......

Anyone had similar? Anyone know if pattern discs are as good as BMW replacements ?

David

seen this before and bmw,s normal limits were more than the m o t limits, hence the bike failed its m o t
ask them what is acceptable, ?how much run out was there, ? or get it checked by a mot man, if it fails i recon they cant argue then,
but i think they may call it wear and tear at 12000 mile

Disk wear limits

If you are unfortunate enough to own a BMW car, you will always find that at the 40,000 mile servive the dealer tells you that the disks need to be replaced, since they are over the wear limit. This occurs with disks which have no indication of wear whatsoever.
Disk warping is, however, a fault, not wear, & if bike was outside warranty, dealer would be almost certain to insist on replacement, since the brake pedal is pulsing.

If the disc is warped but not below BMW's minimum service thickness then it's warranty. Just tell your dealer you want it changing under warranty :beerjug:

And a careful watcher might notice that the range of acceptable variance and tolerances in the GS model has been getting wider over time.

Had the same problem, like a fool I rode around it until out of warranty.

Recently fitted a Galfer Wavy rear disk, thicker than the stock item and probably tougher metal as my stock disk was like chocolate. No probs with warping now.

Also be sure to check the rear alloy drive flange for cracking at the disk mounting lugs. It cost me £133 in parts to replace mine.

For what it's worth

I got ALL my discs AND pads repalced under warranty last year (same year bike as yours)..........mine were inside the BMW limit but when they test rode it at my suggestion they agreed there was a problem and replaced them with no hesitation.

Try another dealer maybe??????

Good luck.

Ian. :)

Put the bike on the centre stand, start the engine and select 1st gear.

Stand behind and look at the rotating rear wheel. Is it wobbling?

If yes you probably have a rear hub/bearing problem.

I had your symptons exactly at 6000 miles and those very nice people at Hurst's,Belfast, fitted a new hub assembly FOC. This is not an uncommon fault.
