As my GSA 1250 is coming up to 3 years old I'm considering extending the warranty. Does anyone know the current cost...

I`ve seen elsewhere figures in the region of £400 per year.....

I’m currently paying 45 quid pm for my tc gsa 47000 miler ,did think of cancelling it but whenever I’ve made a claim it’s been faultless.then again I’ve only made two claims ,it does give you full European recovery and breakdown cover .

Same here. Absolutely faultless. I'm in year 3 of my BMW warranty but will definitely get the extended version. These posts always bring a range of opinions but I'm a believer that if you can afford it, just do it. All that tech crashing up and down shit UK roads - what could possibly go wrong? :)

I’ll be in the same boat in a few months, when my GSA turns three years old. However, the £1000 maximum claim limit does not seem that attractive, for the cost of the policy
  • Maximum claim limit is up to the market value of the insured motorcycle at the time of claim or up to a maximum £1,000, whichever is greater, inclusive of VAT.

I think you have confused yourself as I read 'Which ever is greater' which to me means if your bike is worth less than £1000 then you can only claim up to a £1000, but if the market value is more and is insured for that then they will pay out above £1000 upto the price its valued at with the insurance

I think you may be right there 👍

I’ve had lots of extended warranty claims ( ECU , and recently ABS unit , Throttle body, Brake master cylinder ) and only done 30k miles.
The total of those claims , I guess, is covered by 7 years of premiums at £44.10 pcm.
My bike is like ‘Trigger’s Broom ‘ and the warranty will cover me for the next Europe trip .
Note , suspension not covered after 30k miles .

Except you have to pay repair costs up front and claim them back in the UK

Just under £400 (£395 ish)
That's full breakdown, and extended Warranty (breakdown is Europe wide)
There's a £100 excess on any claim tho

Not too bad value if you plan a 2 or 3 Euro trips in a year

I'm still not 100% about the servicing tho, I had intended to go to Rainbow Workshop for my servicing (instead of main dealer) but it's a grey area. I wasn;t trying to save money by going to an "indie", just thought I would get better service, and a better job done

It's worth noting that BMW exclude some stuff, like throttle assy, and suspension if over 30k miles!!!

"All of the following components in your bike’s suspension system are covered by this policy: Telelever ball joints, telescopic forks (excluding pitting) and seals, front and rear shock absorber units (up to 30,000 miles only)."

I have no excess on my policy ( I’ve double checked ) and have never been charged for any recoveries or repairs or parts replaced.
Could be special terms though .

Never understood why anyone would pay for extra warranty:nenau
Put that money into a savings account each month, Then if something does go wrong, use it? ....... Rather the money in my bank than the insurance company:beerjug:

Mostly due to a single claim will be well over the yearly payment of around £400

I've had my bike just over a year and had to claim twice, one would have easily taken it over the £400 because of labour charges.

Currently savings rate is 5% a month (on an instant access) would bag you next to nothing after tax

I agree, Although all insurance is a risk. Some lawfull, However, and I must just be lucky, But i've never taken extended warranty, And never needed it. So saved myself a small fortune over the last 38 years. Its similar to buying a new TV, they always try to sell you insurance, which I never do. The bottom line I guess, Is do whatever makes you feel comfortable with. But Ill keep my money, Cheers (y)

Absolutely agree and it really is the luck of the draw as I have never needed insurance on previous bikes but it seems this one likes to give me a little anxiety
