Warranty cost gsa 1250

Just under £400 (£395 ish)
That's full breakdown, and extended Warranty (breakdown is Europe wide)
There's a £100 excess on any claim tho

Not too bad value if you plan a 2 or 3 Euro trips in a year

I'm still not 100% about the servicing tho, I had intended to go to Rainbow Workshop for my servicing (instead of main dealer) but it's a grey area. I wasn;t trying to save money by going to an "indie", just thought I would get better service, and a better job done

It's worth noting that BMW exclude some stuff, like throttle assy, and suspension if over 30k miles!!!
Never had to have a part replaced while abroad ,though when bike started running a bit rough in switzerland called the helpline they came out and was taken to dealer , investigated , declared all was ok ,got on with trip nothing to pay .maybe if I had an excess the premium might go down ,but not by much .

Never understood why anyone would pay for extra warranty:nenau
Put that money into a savings account each month, Then if something does go wrong, use it? ....... Rather the money in my bank than the insurance company:beerjug:
First r1200gsa lc had well over £11,000 of warranty work in 32 months (half was after the 2 year warranty ran out), second r1200gsa lc had new clutch pack fitted under extended warranty and a new ecu due to failure both under extended warranty ( first was over £1000 as was the second claim ). Would I own a modern BMW without a Factory , Approved Used or Insured Warranty cover .......... not a snowball in hell chance

Nope on the Insured Warranty you have to pay for any repairs up front and claim back the costs via your local BMW dealer

Fwiw, I'm getting an extend warranty when mine expires next year.
I just want the peace of mind.

Would that be just when abroad ,as last year I had the starter motor replaced didn’t have to pay up front

That’s great if you have trouble free riding for you to accumulate enough to pay up for the work but say you take out the warranty and after the first couple of payments something major goes pop then the warranty doesn’t seem such a waste of money ,like most insurance .you takes your chances and fool the dice

Agree, its a risk. As is everything we do in life. I just choose to keep my money in my bank, and if i need to pay for any failures, then so be it.

Yes in europe, in the UK the Insured Warranty works the same as the Original and Approved Used

£400 per year is excessive and the £100 per claim takes the piss. Chances are you’ll have to wait to get booked in too. Other options for extended warranty are out there together with breakdown too.

I extended my warranty last year (2020 1250 GSa). I've just found paint peeling on the cases near the side stand mounting point. It's not covered by the extended warranty but the dealer has managed to get me a new set of engine cases (unbelievably £7000!!) and BMW will pay up to 80% of the labour...So it will cost me £500 in labour only. I appreciate what they have done but feel a bit peeved that it happened in the first place.

This happened on my previous GS at about 18 months old.

I would literally just paint them...

Are people paying warranty for this sort of stuff.....

I'm torn over this, I have the ability to strip and rebuild most mechanical stuff myself if it fails or get it repaired by a specialist and I have European breakdown cover already with Carole Nash insurance and can fault find with my GS911.

My bike is coming up to the end of its approved used dealer warranty this year and for £400 I might just take them up on the warranty for both peace of mind and to save me the hassle of fixing anything that might fail. I'm not a big fan of all this electro-wizardry like fly by wire throttles and shift-cams etc.

Our four year old Peugeot 3008 GT just had a main dealer repair under extended warranty this week (ECU fault) that would have cost us well over a grand, so sometimes a warranty is a Godsend.

Like any form of Insurance, you only appreciate it when it pays out.

Your fist paragraph is identical to me, After that, My attitude is Fekit. Keep the money. In your pocket. Then if you need to pay that grand, pay it. I look at it from 1987 to now. Im quids in..........

Another gem of discussion lying within this great forum.
Nearly a year on from the start of this discussion by @hairysteve and a letter popped through my door today.
My warranty runs out next month and would I like to renew for another year at £414.21 (£38.83 monthly) which includes BMW Roadside Assistance.
I was deliberating as bike is only 4.5years old and has just 12k miles on it. I’ve used roadside twice in my two years ownership, once when battery died and after misfuelling…..
I’ll be renewing this feature.

"After miss-fueling"
Yes, you probably should pay for extending care.
🤣

Indeed, can’t legislate for stupidity and I can be particularly stupid at times….
Rightly cost me to rectify the colossal foul-up but the transport to dealership and return home afterwards is a welcome feature, nearest dealer is over an hour away. (As mentioned elsewhere)

My 1250GS with 24,000 Miles on the clock was coming up to 3 years old last July and I wasn't sure whether to take out the extended warranty. Then 2 months before the end of the original 3 year warranty, the Tech who carried out a 24,000 mile Service found that both Inlet Cams needed to be replaced and this was carried out free of charge, though did take over 5 weeks for them to be delivered from Germany.

If the Cams had lasted for another few months and I had decided against the extended warranty then the cost to me would have been well over £1,000 unless BMW had been feeling kind, so this made the decision for me and now I'm paying around £450 per year (annually) including Recovery and no Excess for the BMW package. I understand that you can only take the zero Excess option if you continue the extended warranty cover directly on the original warranty finishing.

I had the same. I only had a two year warranty, and it was 4 years old. The dealership told me it needed new cams and followers. All done for free. It was stated, Its a loyalty gesture, and also, By law, it should be fit for use up to minimum of five years. I've never extended any warranty. I keep my money in my bank. And if I need it, its three. All my bikes end up high mileage.

The cost of the warranty reflects to confidence the manufacturer (or insurance under-writer) has in the product.

Suzuki 7 year warranty, up to 100,000 miles
Triumph manufacturer's extended warranty £400 for 2 extra years (but no recovery included)

My GSA is out of warranty in March 2025. If I keep the bike (probably will) I'll get an extended warranty. In 19k mikes I've has a new TFT, 2 rocker covers, cam chain tensioner and shaft under warranty. None of these issues would have stopped the bike (the shaft was found to be slightly out of tolerance when I asked the dealer to grease it at 14.5k and I didn't suspect anything) but it's still a lot in the mileage.

Compared to this I've had 4 Yamaha Super Tenere's and ridden about 110k mikes on them. On all those bike the only thing that has gone wrong that came on the bike when new, was a headlight bulb at 36k on my third!

Mike
