Understand the collective knowledge is that if you make a contribution to a warranty repair within original manufacture or extended warranty period the new part is covered for 2 years. Is this only a BMW mottorad policy or does it transfer to other vehicles specifically VW Transporter. If so any clues where I can look on tinternet to show VW I'm not making it up?

As far as I know it applies to all warranty repairs as did the same with a T5 and a Vito for regularly failing EGR valves when warranty came to an end.

I guess it would depend on whether that was agreed when the contribution was paid towards the warranty work. Generally the warranty on replaced bits will only last to the end of the original manufacturer's warranty.

If you make a contribution (however small) toward an extended warranty or goodwill repair then the warranty remains with you

You will receive a receipt for your part of the contribution and that is your confirmation of guarantee

This is a Motor Trade standard and not unique to BMW

I can't think of a situation were a customer would be asked to make a contribution towards a repair when a vehicle was within the manufacturers warranty period? Contributions would only normally be requested from the manufacturer if there was an issue outside of the original warranty (which would be classified as Goodwill) or if there was a third party involvement such as a manufacturers backed extended warranty

If so any clues where I can look on tinternet to show VW I'm not making it up?

What is your dealer saying and what are the circumstances under which he is saying it? :nenau

Having just received an update from my dealer I am told that BMW have agreed to replace the engine and throttle bodies, which is nice.
However, there is a contribution from me, labour and fluids which I am told will be nigh on a thousand pounds, does this seem reasonable.
The details - 17k 2014 GSA, I pointed out the corrosion issues when the bike went in for service "whilst still under warranty", although because it took them weeks to reply (and I only got a reply when I asked - a number of times) I have not paid for another year's warranty cover.

In their defence, the sales guys are looking at the numbers to see if a deal can be done on something else, but as yet there's no deal on the table or any indication of what would be any goodwill contribution.

Thoughts?

Andy

The sales guys are trying to shift something which isn't moving and take away the warranty headache. They will then move your bike onto another punter after a good polish. They will make money on your purchase and when they flog yours. They are looking for a deal which will give them as much profit as possible. Otherwise they would go out of business. They are trying to work out what they can get away with.
