Its very rare that I buy some vehicle as new but last year did and 1290SAR it is. Its my 4th LC8 in a row and they all have worked pretty much flawles.
Until now, left hand switched started cutting out and once the bike has warranty and road service I called to them and they took the bike to the dealer. Then 3 1/2 weeks went bike and heard nothing from them.. until I called. They told it would take another week to get the parts and then they will in some point finally fix it. So it will something like minimum 5 weeks for a simple fix.

This took me thinking that if this happens during the best season I couldn`t tolerate it. This time the fault wasn`t even nothing mechanically challenging. So started to think about trading it to something else.. most likely to Africa Twin. I truly love the LC8 engine and most of the bike but this service takes me down. I still have the Super Enduro and 701 so maybe the big bike doesn`t need to be that extreme.

I was thinking that might be the reason but haven`t heard anyone else with same fault.

is this a problem part worldwide ? if so , everyone will be ordering it , it will be in short supply.

parts supply is more likely a matter of cash flow. If the part is not already in the KTM warehouse then a supplier might be reluctant to send more on credit.

I went into my local KTM last week
I just wanted 2 panel pins for the princely sum of £6.12
They didn’t have them
However they could get them in 2-3 days from another uk dealer
I said how about parts supply from Austria (like bmw offer from Germany in 2-5 days)
They laughed
They said parts supply from KTM direct was 3-5 weeks nowadays
It was chaos at the moment with all the recent upheavals
Told me all I needed to know
Ordered part through them at 4.55pm and it was there next day by 11am
Looks like uk inter dealer supply is the way forward unless it’s a major or unusual engine part

The bike has been at dealer soon for 6 weeks. Called them a week ago and nothing since that. I’m pretty much full of it and been looking after some last year AT:s wich are still available. Looks like DTC:s are available right froom the floor but manual versions not.

I don’t believe out dealers would never do co-operations with parts. They all have webshop for parts and if it isn’t listed it will automatically make order to factory.

Where a warranty claim is concerned the parts would have to be purchased from the manufacturer (and sold back to them) as part of the claim at cost

If another dealer had the item in stock then that is likely to have been as a consequence of a fuck up in the Parts Dept :augie

Yesterday 7 weeks since dropped to dealer.

I contacted lawyer but we decided wait for still for a moment before making a letter. I also had discussions with import company and as a result they are taking parts from their demobike.

In the mean time our biggest KTM deler at capital city is closing its operations in radip order. Few years back the import company broke deals with smaller old dealers and consentrated all activities to one deler and its "flagship" store. No as this dealer is shutting they set up showroom by their own (where they don`t sell anything) and try to find new dealer(s). Dealers at the moment don`t have much to sell and rumpurs tell that parts and bikes are in hold until June.

I made personal choice today and paid deposit for new Africa Twin and agreed to deliver 1290 for sale to another bike dealer when ever its ready from.

I sold my 2023 1290 SAS yesterday as I decided I don't want the hassle if/when it goes wrong. I absolutely adored that bike and would love to have kept it. The LC8 engine is a fucking masterpiece and that's from someone that's owned 4 different GSXR-1000 K5/6's. But I've not got the mental stamina for owning something while constantly worrying what my options will be when I need to get it sorted. The nearest KTM dealer to me that I trust...ish is 90 miles away so logistically a pain in the backside.

For now I'll stick with my dependable Transalp 750 even if it can't get near the pleasures of 1290 riding.

This was just a longwinded way of me saying I think you've done the right thing :)(y)

I still have a "for sale" ad for my 2018 1290, but figure nobody would buy it now except at just above scrap value so going the other way and keeping it, if I did sell it then I could not buy anything for the money i'd get other than a much older / higher miles bike.

@Daxaar, how did you flog it? A mate of mine recently got good money from WBAB for his '22 model, I was expecting to steal it from him as BMW dealer offered him a pittance against a GS, but WBAB paid a grand more than I would of done for it!....

....Not sure they will be paying much soon as it looks like KTM are about to fold completely....

...However I think service items and stuff will be easy, and any parts stock KTM hold will end up being sold by someone somewhere, and they weren't ever much cop for bits by the time a bike got to 10 years old anyway....

...and so much interchangeability on 1X90 models from 2013 - 2020, and some service items the same on 21-24 models, so should not be too bad for a while to come.

TBH I'd still consider a new leftover 24 model if they get down to around £10k, kind of second hand private sale money, as you never get warranty on second hand provate bike anyway.

Feel the pain bros.. hope that they somehow survive but the whole organization needs fresh people and new dealers at least here at Finland. The bikes are beasts and as mentioned the mighty LC8 is a total rocket.
