Warranty work and Rad guards.................

Local dealership has informed me that any warranty issues that can be related to the fitting of Rad guards will be void.

So in short, take off the rad guards before making a claim.

They must of come accross a issue with cooling, and the guards obstructing airflow somewhere................ Anyone heard anything ?

Or they have just made it up...... It being easier to tell a punter that something is not included, than telling them that it is. That way the dealership can't go wrong and can emerge as heroes if they suddenly change their minds.

BMW, as the manufacturer, can cover anything beyond their minimum statutory obligations they like, up to and including giving you a brand new bike and oodles of financial compensation, if they feel so inclined.

If you read it carefully *, I was more positive vis-a-vis BMW's Warranty coverage than the OP, who damned any chance at all, as did autogs.

Now, what's your take on it? Will BMW honour the warranty? Yes or no?

Not sure whether they will or not! I didn't bother with the guards on mine but I have a great relationship with my dealer and would hope they would be sympathetic.

Ile be putting guards on mine ,,, after a 200 ish mile run last Sunday I checked the bike over and found a nasty ding in one one of my rads,,, Ile remember to wip them of if need be and keep an eye on temps.

Alan Jefferies, a reputable dealer, have rad guards on sale as an accessory, they are not genuine BMW parts but surely if you buy a product from an approved dealer the warranty must be assured.

Buy rad guards from a company such as Touratech, who are in partnership with BMW, and if BMW refuse a claim, then knock on Touratech's door. They'll probably tell you to do one, but it's better than making your own guards out of an old chicken coup.

Fitted a set I had given me made by cymarc, Mark Hooton, did a 165 mile journey on one of our warmest days so far this year, 2 up with full load of luggage at motorway speeds, kept eye on water temp, no noticeable difference, fans came on as normal when I reached the multi story car park, went off shortly after..
I'm not unduly worried about any restriction in airflow, better to keep rad guards in place than not..
Also I must say guards engineered very well too..

I got the same speal from my dealership re guards and 'interfering' with cooling (they also sell them????) , but I'd be more concerned with bugs and crap clogging the rads , a good flush from behind every now and then carried out.

These are the pics from a trip I did with my brother last year. It was my brother's bike that was hit by a rock. I have fitted Touratech guards and they work great. No change in temp and I have had them on there for about 2000km

Rad guards are in my opinion unnecessary and if badly designed could restrict the airflow to the rads - however if you do lots of off-roads riding in groups then they might just be worth considering.
