Warranty

I went into the dealer about mid July looking for a late used and the Salesman said if I wanted to go for new one in a couple of weeks the warranty would be three years, but he did say that he shouldn't really be telling me ;)[/QUOTE]

& my point exactly, if Bmw had backdated the warranty by 1 month there wouldn’t be all this animosity

I don’t get all the moaning to be honest. If you were happy with the deal when you bought it then why has anything changed? I can see why people get pissed off with the spokes and other issues that make you lose confidence in the bike etc, but buying a bike and then wanting a different deal a month later is bizarre.

I'm completely with you on this this one. Have I entered a parallel universe?

But where does it end? They backdate it by a month, then the people that bought a bike two months previously will then moan.

The issue is - that dealer was being rather disingenuous......... If that had led to being public knowledge - all sales could have halted, as everyone hung back. Are BMW Motorrad dealers that awash with cash that they can survive a few months with no income, just outgoings?

It is naieve to expect it to be backdated also - as there is still a finite cut-off point that would upset some.

This doesn’t affect me, but will some on here..

I worked for a company selling electronic goods, a few years ago they introduced an extra years warranty on electrical items, we (the sales team) knew we were gonna get it in the neck, lots of mildly upset customers, the parent company updated all pre sales within the last 2 months with the extra warranty, as you can imagine the existing customer base were delighted & remained loyal to our brand.
That warranty cost them next to nothing, in fact brand loyalty was immense, now in BMW’s case it may cost them lots as the issues will grow with age & milage, I foresee the dealers having to crack down on corrosion claims etc, etc.
That’s called caring..

If I would have bought my bike 3 months later, it would have had the wiring loom, that allowed the upgrade to a TFT, do I really care..................no because I was able to ride for 3 months way more pleasure.

It's called a grace period...

Rolex did the same a while ago. Increased the warranty on all new watches from 2 to 5 years. Backdated watches so that all watches currently within warranty (less than 2 years old) were automatically upgraded to 3 years. Not the full 5 but a very nice gesture indeed. The issue here is BMW's total arrogance to their customers.

Warranty! The product should be reliable enough not to have to need it.!

Does anyone know as % of all sales since the LC 2013 the number of warranty claims made?

But that's the weird thing, my 2017 BMW R1200 GSA is reliable. It's done 12000 miles no problems, no warranty claims yet, all good.

However, my 2012 Honda VFR1200 had 5 warranty claims over 3 years from new. Very good bike but Honda quality did not apply here.

My Kawasaki KMX, Yamaha XV100, Kawasaki ZZR1400, Triumph 675R, all had zero warranty claims from new.

& my point, it wouldn’t cost Bmw anything (as my previous employer calculated) as these bikes are pretty reliable, but it would give those affected extra peace of mind & wow, what a goodwill & brand loyalty bonus for Bmw

Bought mine on the 30th June - missed out by a month and a day - can’t say I really care Tbh..
