One of my best days out. The late start gave me quiet roads in the evening. And the sunshine really made it.
Got a wee ride in today on my new steed. Couldn't find a sticker - RUNNING IN - PLEASE PASS. But 4,000 RPM was enough anyway.
Caught 4 ski slopes in one run. After the debacle at Perth due to the Scone game fair traffic, I diverted via Dundee, followed by the road works closure on the A93 a few miles north of Blairgowrie.
Fuckin' eedjit road worker asked me if I'd seen the Road Closed signs. Yes says I, but they didn't say exactly where and there was no signposted diversion. So along with the Belhaven beer lorry plus many more tourists I had to do a 180 and return to Blairgowrie. I took the cart track from Alyth to the A93 then onward to Tomintoul. My mood improved after a sausage roll (that's a roll on sausage) and coffee at the Glenshee ski cafe then the sun came out.
All was well for the rest of the day with the sun out.
Over the Lecht then Aviemore for Lucozade and Bounty plus some unleaded. Laggan dam. Past Nevis range into Fort Bill at 5pm rush hour. Then looped round Kinlochleven as I've never been there for years. Then Glen Coe with the sun on my back. Not much to beat that.
How good are these roads when they're quiet?
A93 north from Braemar.
Newtonmore to Spean Bridge.
Glencoe to Crieff.
My route was:
Home - Kincardine - Perth - Blairgowrie (the long way round) - Braemar - Tomintoul - Aviemore - Spean Bridge - Fort William - Kinlochleven - Glen Coe - Tyndrum - St Fillans - Crieff - Gleneagles - Glen Devon - Home.
384 miles. 60mpg. Will be ready for first service next week.
