Took it to a local engineering shop in the end, they milled of the remaining studs and drilled then tapped new threads in.
Did a good job and only £10 per stud. Have now rebuilt with no probs but modified slightly. Spaced out the studs with stainless washers to allow a normal nut to fit with a couple of threads still showing, then filled new BM capped nuts with copperslip, and screwed on over the exposed thread. Quater of a turn to lock them in place. I will try to remember to loosen them off from time to time to stop them from seizing.
