Watch out for dealers passing off '08 bikes as '09 bikes, and charging you '09 prices. Check your build dates carefully !
Remember the price rise was largely due to the fall in the £ and came into effect 1st Jan '09.
I got stung by an underhand BMW dealer.
- I ordered a loaded '09 spec bike from a BMW dealer and I specifed an '09 bike. When I buy new, I like it to be new, and not having been hanging around for months. One of the worst things for any vehicle is lack of use...
- Dealer agreed in writing to an '09 spec bike.
- Got bike, pleased with it, but later noticed it didn't have LED indicators (standard in '09 comfort pack)
- Dealer tried to fob me off saying it's definately an '09 bike...and must have been built to wrong spec during the '08 to '09 "crossover".
- I smelt a rat, so called BMW who confirmed was an '08 spec bike built in July '08 !
- Now what really p*ssed me off is that I got charged '09 prices for an '08 bike, and bike would have been in the UK well before the £ dropped...and so charged to BMW UK at '08 prices.
- BMW Customer services said dealer should not have charged me '09 prices!
- Dealer still trying to fob me off with utter cr*p.
- So sent an email to dealer: Under Sale of Goods Act 1979 as bike is not as specified, I am entitled to a full refund etc. But offered to be reasonable and settle for a refund of '08 - '09 price rise, as spec difference is just indicators. If spec difference was more than this (i.e. engine upgrade), then I would have definately rejected the bike.
- Dealer saw the light and realised it would be cheaper to to pay me to go away.
- Got cheque in post !
- My lawyer friend says they have got off very lightly and I should have been harder...
My last bike came from SPC, and last I heard that the guy that owned it went down for fraud...
Even though the dealers have BMW on the door, they are still conniving lying sneaky underhand b*stards. So, service cancelled and gone elsewhere...and am damned if they are getting another penny off me.
However, as this dealer has settled amicably, I'm not going to name them.
