Gave quick search but couldnt find anything

opened fuel cao and found water around the shoulder of the inlet.

is this commor or is there a oring or seal can fit into it?

also anyone find corrosion at edge where fuel cap meets painted edge of the tank?

Hi John

You should see a small hole in the plate under the cap, this is the drain hole.

It is almost certainly blocked up, and if you're really unlucky the pipe may have got rusty as well.

Try squirting some wd40 or similar down this little hole, and see if you get some wd40 dripping onto the floor.

Mine was blocked, and I ended up using some old brake cable to push the blockage out from the metal pipe, and I now spray wd40 down the pipe on a monthly basis.

ah great. ya hole gunked up i would say as under can is well rusty

ah well dont have much time for biking next few weeks, so might take parts off, service bike and do lot of cosmetic/cleaing work like spraying all parts that starting to show sign of corrosion etc.

where does the drain pipe run through?

It runs inside the tank (!) out the RHS and down one of the two drain tubes which are usually tied behind the rear brake cylinder. WD 40 should dribble out of one of these tubes.

I've seen a warning on here somewhere (Steptoe I think) - careful if you try to unblock it with an air-hose. You can blow the internal pipe off.

Likewise be careful with what you poke down it to 'rod it out' - the internal rubber hose takes a couple of turns and there's a danger of piercing it if you are too enthusiastic with wire (then it'll leak continuously out of the tank neck drain hose by the footpeg ;) ).

I used strimmer cord (with the end sanded nice and round). That said, since then I've re-piped all the tank internals.

I had the same issue on my 1100GS and found lots of water during an gas filter change, in the tank.

Took me ~ 1 hr to get the cap off, clean it with a hard piece of steel wire and lots of wd40 but it was worth the job ;)

Dan.

oooops just read it now

i tried air hose but all happened is blow the wd40 out around fuel cao edge
