It seems that just about very time I ride my GS it rains. I like to take photos on trips and my Minolta X50 has been an excellent compact camera and has survived some wet excursions but it is not a weatherproof camera.

I have seen some weatherproof cameras but quite fancy the waterproof Pentax Option W30 which I am sure somebody mentioned they had used on the Skye trip. I have a 35mm Pentax Zoom90-WR which is weatherproof but would rather have a smaller digital camera.

Anyone had experiences of the Pentax or similar? I found the Optio W30 for just over £150 on Pixamania which seems good for a digital camera that can go down to 10 foot underwater. Pity Pixamania didn't offer a student discount as well as I now have a student ID card. :thumb (Must be the oldest student on campus :o ) Nowhere localy seems to stock them as I would like to have had a look at one first.

Thanks Iain

I bought a w20 Pentax...seems to do a good enough job, and as you say, waterproof...

Trouble is, I left it at G.C.s a couple of weeks ago so it's probably being filled with all sorts of nonsense.... :blast :D

Olympus SW 770

Waterproof to 10 metres.

Used it snorkel diving with excellent results.

Good zoom capability.

Thanks for feedback folks. Love the underwater stuff on the Olympus SW 770 but decided to go for Pentax W30 as it was £60-£70 cheaper and will do fine up to 10 foot underwater. Also it takes SD cards which matches in with most of the gadgets I already have. Waiting for the post now :thumb

Now thats an idea/oportunity.
What nonsense should I fill it with, any suggestions :augie

Good camera Iain :thumb2 Its not only waterproof, its dustproof and shockproof and generally GSer proof. I mount it on the bars, initially for a steady shot but I like the "on the move" shots too.

I now remember you having a camera on your handlebars during the GOC road run. Now that was a test of a camera's waterproofness, dustproofness and shockproofness. Got plenty suitable mounts from doing bullet camera stuff on cars/bikes, so will give that a bash as well.

Also might try it out in my garden pond to get pictures of my goldfish

What a nice photo, need to have a bairns run sometime :thumb
