Couldn't see this reported already, but thought it was interesting.

Sorry i can only find a Facebook video at the moment https://www.facebook.com/XLAdventureRider/videos/999837656845322

Or instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/BjrwwTvFtFp

The Top End Adventure Bike from BMW “Engine Failed under 4 months run 2500 km”. - BMW R1200 GS Pro the Engine broke down completely while I was riding to bangalore from kerala last week. The next day the dealer opened the Engine in front me and I was surprised to see loose bolts from the Engine timing chain sprocket and metal in powder form. All this could happen but I am really sad on the laid back attitude of the company.
And I waited for more than a week and EVM could not get back to me as the BMW server to report the issue is under error it’s seems. Nobody from BMW India called me to address the issue. It’s really sad after paying a big amount such premium Bikes miserably fail. I don’t blame the dealer EVM here but I do blame BMW Motorrad for bringing in such low quality bikes to india and gives damn to there customers .

I'm a little surprised an engine under warranty was torn open by a dealer just to see what had gone wrong.

And now stand back and observe, a minimum of 50% of posters will immediately attack the bike owner as it will be their fault because of low oil, lack of oil, wrong oil etc , none of this will be the fault of jolly old BMW as their products never ever go wrong

That could be the problem, lack of authority for repairs, had a similar issue with engine damaged by dealer, they started stripping it and Aprillia sent a replacement new engine, egg over certain person's face.

This one will end up like the calipers no right or wrong answer, and no final answer bring out the sarnies............

In 2500 km? Mine doesn’t use any oil. What is etc, etc? Speak English:augie

And some do. Oil consumption is common when an engine is new. Had varying results with different bikes over the years, I know of a KTM that was using 1 litre in less than 1000miles.

So, it could be a faulty engine, it might not have been filled to the correct level at 1st service, etc. etc. etc. :blast

etc is a written abbreviation for 'et cetera' fairly standard use of English

This doesn't pass the "so what" test for me. There will always be some early failures in complex machinery - it's why manufacturers provide a warranty.

‘Torn’ is a very emotive word, definitely not a term used in engineering. The motor was dismantled for inspection sounds much more normal!
Just saying....:augie

Head covers removed to investigate then found loose bolts in timing chain sprocket and other metal shite all over, this simple check could be the amount of the tear down of the motor.

Torn down sounds more shocking than head covers removed for inspection, but we may never know for sure. :nenau

Wonder how the powder was identified as a timing chain after the engine was torn open

Anyway, x amount of engines produced with no mechanical failure (surprise), Y = 1 mechanical failure and it is all crap. Maybe because z amount has dissolved before our eyes :D

When are BMW do a recall for this design fault - it’s a disgrace!
