So what do most people spray on their engines and final drive to try and keep the dreaded corrosion at bay?

Are the three named pretty much the same or not?

Cheers

Acf50 is the only one designed for what your after. Gt85 will leave a very thin coating on but in all honesty isn't really going to protect much in this instance. WD 40 is useless at everything except setting fire to and killing wasps mid flight!

There is a Scott oil product that would also do a job. It's lighter than ACF but people seem to like it. Sorry I can't for the life of me remember it's name.

ACF 50 for me !

Wd40 not an option for long term protection (by long term i mean more than a few days )

ACF50

Coated mine in ACF50 from new in April, appears to be good stuff.
Bike needs a wash now.
What am I supposed to do now that it's covered in what looks like vaseline along with all the bits of grit stuck to it.
Usually wash my car / bike with autoglym shampoo - need to change now the bike's all gritty and oily?

Castrol green stuff will take ACF off with ease.

Paraffin will bring it ALL off just fine (really).....You DON'T need any mega expensive Muck Off/Sdoc stuff.....:thumb2

Scottoiler 365 is made for the job and pump sprays much better than ACF50 which also is a great product and probably superior but a bit gunky (just doing it's job I suppose).

I use Scottoiler 365 after every wash, which is normally after every ride during winter and early spring. WD40 and GT85 are okay but a bit lightweight...good for summer use.

Also as DrRich... S-Doc100 for cleaning.

FS365

F800GS from new, 120,000 miles, winter use, used nothing but FS365 applied before and after winter ....

No corrosion whatsoever

Same here!

Used Scottoiler FS365 for 10 years or more now & never suffered from corrosion.

I also have ACF 50 , and I know it's THE STUFF!

But it's a pain to put on and I don't have the confidence to leave an unwashed bike all winter.

My regular routine has always been to use ACF50 on the engine casing and final drive and wash it off with SDoc 4-5 times a year and re-apply, only spraying it down with a cold hose once a week.
GT85 everywhere else - on everything, after each wash.

Thanks everyone, I'd not heard of the fs365. Think I might buy a litre of that!

I was given a tip about applying ACF50 by a guy who applies it in Motorcycle dealers. They spray the ACF50 into a container (the can lid say) then use a small brush and a piece of foam dipped in to the ACF50 to wipe/brush onto the bike. This works well and it goes a long way.

Bilt- Hamber.....Dynax UC..... there is no better anti corrosion product on the market.

Everything metal or black plastic gets coated including the calipers gets treated with ACF-50 applied with sponge and paint brush. The plastics are then buffed up with an old towel.
The bike is June 2014 , 12,000 mls and no corrosion so far.

I second that. All this other make believe stuff comes off with ease. This is waxy and stays on. Want wash it off then get the degreaser from Bilthamber. It doesn't mark or taint the finish on the BMW. Bilthamber products are very good stuff and made in the UK. You can order from Opie Oils.

At work we have been using ACF 50 and its sister product Corrosion Block for years on back deck equipment (winches etc). Both products are excellent. We had a client whose boat sank at its moorings with a £20000 sonar processor in the wheelhouse. When recovered we stripped the electronics and put the PCBs in a bath of Corrosion Block and after a month rebuilt the sonar and it has been used as a workshop test set ever since. Terrific products....as used on US Navy aircraft
