Hi there - About a year ago I posted here asking for advice about travelling around Ireland on a GS.

I got some great tips and as a result, we had a storming trip.
I've posted photos (with brief comments) here: www.gastric.com/ireland.

Enjoy.

Hi Finbarr,

Some great pics there! What route did you take around Ireland?

Well done.
Very nice pics, the bikes were very photogenic. :thumb :D
I'd be curious, what route did you take?

Mizen Head, Beara Peninsula, Healey Pass, dinner at Out of the Blue in Dingle, Inch beach...........God was a biker from south west Cork.

Yes, "Mizen Head, Beara Peninsula, Healey Pass, dinner at Out of the Blue in Dingle, Inch beach" is exactly right.

We did get further round to the north but my camera packed up and I didn't get anything further.

We started in Dublin having crossed from Holleyhead and basically followed the coast heading clockwise. We zapped through the Wicklow mountains via Sally Gap down to Arklow - then took the deadly dull N11 to Wexford where upon we decided no more "N" roads!

We took some really small little roads down to Hook head and then on to Waterford. Missed the crystal but met up with two stunning girls who chatted us up and took us out for a pint (or two - my memory goes hazy at this point).

We litterally dragged ourselves out of Waterford with very heavy hearts and rode to Clonmel via Carrick. Then south and across to Femoy and on to Mallow. Then big drop south to the outskirts of Cork and took the R584 out past Macroom to Bantry and then on to Crookhaven for a few quiet pints of Guiness and discussions about returning to Waterford!

We spent the next 2 days doing every minor road on the Beara and Iveragh peninsulars (this was soooo goood!) and finally on to Dingle via Kilarney to meet up with a friend. We left Dingle and headed off towards Tralee realising we had spent too much time in the mountains (having fun) and were now seriously short on time. We rode pretty hard to Limerick and found some quiet country roads to the north around Lough Derg.

At this point sanity set in, we realized we had done the best roads we could this trip so far and we better get moving to catch the ferry home - we rode to Nenagh and then nailed it straight accross to Dublin in pretty much a single hit - petrol at Kildare and vroom into Dublin in time for the boat.

I fully intend to come back and finish off the top half - and to budget a bit more time.

I have to say though - the bits of Ireland we did get to were absolutely stunning - but I wouldn't want to do those roads on anything other than a GS methinks!

Cheers and glad you liked the pics.

Kind regards,
Fin.

Really enjoyed your pics and the write up. Like the 'action' shots on the Healey Pass

Nice one Kevin :clap :clap :clap
Welcome are you going on the run this Sat ??

Nice pics - heard about that beach in Dingle - crafty locals make a fortune in the Summer pulling cars that get stuck off it - €20 a time they charge.

nice pics dudes, the irish tourist board would love that!! :thumb
all along the west coast from cork, kerry, clare, galway, mayo, sligo to donegal, all fantastic places to bike!

Brilliant photos and good comments to go with them.
The healy pass looks so good in fine weather. :coold
We did it a few years ago in a sports car, at the top water from a large waterfall was being blown back up to the top of the rockface. :eek
Theres nowhere finer when it's good weather, but oh those "soft days" can be character building, even on four wheels.

no run on saturday !
