My R1150GS has now completed 19,200 miles on a pair of Metzeler Tourance old spec tyres. I have had a new pair (old spec) waiting to go on, but these just won’t wear. I checked the dealer receipt that gives the date they went on and since I’ve been to Sothern Spain, Southern Italy and Morocco. :)

My service engineer says it’s my style of riding and often tells other customers of my mileage on the Tourance.

Just thought I’d share this.:thumb2

I did 15K on a set of Tourances and whilst they still had plenty of tread, I changed them anyway becuase I had a couple of 'moments' in the wet which took me by surprise.

Mileage is neither here nor there. (sorry to burst your bubble)

how old are these wonder tyres? when exactly were they fitted?

My bike lives outside all year round and so for that reason I replace the tyres every 36 months regardless of whether they're worn out or not. The last set of Tourance rubbish I had started to split in the side wall well before that though and were rapidly binned.

I haven’t posed it as a preface to an argument; it was posted purely as interest. Sorry not to develop this into an argument with your bubble:rolleyes:

They are not “wonder tyres” they are Metzeler Tourance.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience with your rubbish tyres. My tyres live in my heated garage.

They were fitted June 2006. (cant remeber if it was one o clock or two ?) Not perished at all. Although they are squared off and should be replaced now. I’ve one shorter trip this May which on my return I will get it done.
I’m very pleased with the lack of wear.:)

just a slight overrreaction there. :augie

the garage is of course the big diference is it not? rather than being on a patio and subject to the weather sun and all sorts. Which was why I describe tourances consistently as rubbish. not because of wear. the ones I had were nowhere near maximum wear when they decided to fall apart.

:jes Thats me !:D I like to Nip it in the bud.:comfort

David, im just hoping i dont get the little surprise you got:rob

The garage and the fact it does'nt go out in the wet/salt must indeed have an effect too.

I am truly sorry and now feel ever so terrible about the fact I’m pleased with mine. I will keep it to myself in future:D

I have been happily slithering about on my awful Tourances for about ten thousand miles now too, I dont know how much life is left in them but the front one is wearing evenly rather than the cupping I have seen on some, no sign of cracking yet :nenau
Stewart

Nothing wrong with the tourance tyre. or the "awful" so people say.. t66 that i run on the front.... must be riding style :augie

nice and safe gloves by the way....:augie

3 years out of my rear tourance...........was squared off quite badly so I replaced it......was still legal though

23k,out of my rear tourance, its about a mm away from the wear inducators, new one waitin to go in2action,dint get 5 k out of b/stone on the vfr, altho,it gets driven a bit different than the 1150gs,:green gri

5,500 miles out of my rear Tourance, down to the tell tales about 500 ago. Not impressed with them, new on the bike when I bought it. Now sporting Pilot Roads since Friday, hopin to have my toes back on the deck very soon........

Thats good to know. Last time i looked there still wasn't a PR available for one or other fitments. (can't recall if it was front or rear)

just out of interest though Clive. was the tourance you had the 'old' or new EXP version?

Four well-dressed Tossers sitting together at a rather posh bikers caff.

Tosser1: Ahh.. Very passable, this, very passable.

Tosser2: Nothing like a good glass of Chateau de Chassilier wine, ay Gessiah?

Tosser3: You're right there Obediah.

Tosser4: Who'd a thought thirty years ago we'd all be sittin' here drinking Chateau de Chassilier wine?

Tosser1: Aye. In them days, we'd a' been glad to have the price of a cup o' tea.

Tosser2: A cup o' COLD tea.

Tosser4: Without milk or sugar.

Tosser3: OR tea!

Tosser1: In a filthy, cracked cup.

Tosser4: We never used to have a cup. We used to have to drink out of a rolled up newspaper.

Tosser2: The best WE could manage was to suck on a piece of damp cloth.

Tosser3: But you know, we were happy in those days, though we were poor.

Tosser1: Aye. BECAUSE we were poor. My old Dad used to say to me, "Money doesn't buy you happiness but it does buy you a pair of Metzeler Tourances"

Tosser4: 'E were right. I were happier then and I had nothin cept a pair of Tourances with 20,000 miles on em.

Tosser2: 20,000 miles? You were unlucky. I had a pair of Tourances with 30,000 miles on em

Tosser3: You were unlucky to get just 30,000. My old Tourances did seven years and wore out at 56,000!

Tosser1: Ohhhh we used to LAUGH about gettin just 56,000 miles. My Tourances did 373,268 miles before I flogged em to that Charlie McGregor! And ‘e went round bloody world on ‘em 19 times tha knows! Hmph.

Tosser4: Well when I say "20,000" it were all off road.

Tosser2: I used to DREAM of riding off road! I ‘ad to ride roads covered in nails!

Tosser3: You were lucky to have NAILS! I ‘ad to ride on roads covered in broken glass and landmines with mam and dad on’t pillion seat and two dogs in a small shoebox.

Tosser1: Cardboard box?

Tosser3: Aye.

Tosser4: But you try and tell the young people that today ... and they won't believe ya'. :rob

ALL: Nope, nope..

A total rip-off of the brilliant Monty Python sketch (for any rare young Tossers:))

Aye those were the days :D

Motobiker has made the point clear about these tyres that has been mentioned about a gerzillion times before

The exp is **** for longevity.

The old tourance is ace for it.
