Health to enjoy it. Might see you in the glens sometime (y)

PS - is that the piil box next to the bridge over the Dee before Strahdon and the A944/A97 turning?

Yes Steve, on both questions. I do wonder how many more pill boxes are hidden around the Balmoral area.

Not been around the local area much this year, bad weather, unable to get tyres for the Honda till 7 days before I got the ferry from Newcastle, and then coming back with the rear slightly worn. You seem to be getting out in the too few breaks we're seeing, and fingers crossed the breaks get longer!

Taxi duties meant a late start to a wee ride today. With an eye on the weather all week I wasn't sure I'd get out at all. Turned out much better than expected.

A wee 200 mile spin. In 20 Degrees too. Roads busy in places, but all the ones I wanted clear were clear.

Via Callander (busy), Tyndrum, Dalmally (brilliant road), Loch Awe, double back down to Inveraray (the A819 is growing on me) for a coffee and choccy bar from my box, Arrochar, Finnart, over what I call the "Rocket Road" (A817 Haul Road), Balloch and the sun on my back heading east to Stirling.

Rolled in to my home Tesco pump with range = 2 miles. No problem. 17.78L in an 18L tank on side stand.

I really enjoyed blowing away some cobwebs as my good wife and I have been "under the weather" for 10 days following a generous donation of a wee Covid bug following a gathering.
We know exactly who shared the love :)

In for a penny, in for a pound ……….

I don’t expect to get out in the next couple of weeks so decided to head SW today. Forecast was Grey, but rain should stay away. But a wee spit showed up late in the afternoon.

Getting to some of Scotland’s best SW roads requires fighting past Motherwell to reach Strathaven to get to the start line on the B743 to Muirkirk. What a PITA.

Followed by the B741 to Dalmellington. Unfortunately the wee cafe was closed. And boy, the windmill industry is busy down there. Some beautiful new tarmac though.

Then back along the roller coaster A76 to the infamous A702 up to Abington then Biggar then home. Traffic was quiet so all good for me.

Was pretty chilly compared with yesterday. Summer might come late this year.

ps - no low fuel lamp today, only 166 miles

pps - the knee sliders won’t be touching down any time soon. Standard issue on my ‘short ride” troos

It’s gonna rain tomorrow. I think. So jumped up early(ish) and headed for a short loop round Kenmore/Aberfeldy. Was wonderful. Tourist traffic not too bad. The roads aren’t billiard table smooth, but an excellent ride without the need for Warp Speed. A mere 140 miles.

Tomorrow My Man will give me fresh brake fluid. And take a look at why my current set of rear pads have lasted only 1 year and 5,000 miles 😠IMG_0461.jpegIMG_0463.jpegIMG_0467.jpegIMG_0468.jpegIMG_0469.jpegIMG_0471.jpegIMG_0474.jpeg

Set off at 0415h for a ferry at Cairnryan. Really odd driving through Glasgow & Ayrshire in the dark. Thank goodness for HID headlamps plus OEM spots. Daylight arrived around 0600h. Fuckin’ cold though. Down to 6 degrees and I didn’t take my hot vest.

First time Stena ferry and first time in Ireland on 2 wheels.

Smooth crossing. Straight out on road. What a difference from Euro ferry.

The purpose ? A wee Irish National Rally, i.e. a wee trundle around 12 out of 24 total checkpoints all over Ireland.

Naturally I chose 12 up top.

Don’t know when I last did a 400 mile day. To ferry. To start point. Run 6 places. To hotel.

Thank goodness sun came out. Up to 31 degrees.

Super country roads. Fast main roads. Shitty town centres. Shitty queues of vehicles. All in all a good day out.

Roll on day 2.

So I’ve tootled up to Ullapool for my starting point tomorrow. Wide ranging temperature from 16 to 27 in Glen Coe. Good day. In a nice B&B, but there’s no second “B”. Odd. But nice room and view.

ps - had to stop a few miles from home to catch the dash reading

From a ride south last week to meet up with some liked minded loonies . . .
