Web page creating programs for newbie!!!

Hi all

I want to build a web page and have never done it before. I have no experience with HTML and scouring the internet have found a number of 'drag and drop' programs such as Bluvoda etc. which supposedly do all the coding for you.

My question is has anyone used any programs like this? Are they any good? Can you recommend a good one?

The web page does not need to be flash or sing and dance, just a trial for a friend with a small business to identify if a web page for his business would help.

Any help much appreciated.

Try KompoZer - the unofficial "bug-fixed" version of Nvu.

It's pretty good for a freebie.

you can build web pages in anything from power point, excel to msn word the build is not that hard the creativity is the bit which will make it more complex, you could get someone to build you a droople page or have a rumage around the droople forum. Sorry drupal is an open source web page builder thingy... it's good we used it for a while. http://drupal.org/

Once the template is built you can change all the info yourself.

or Corps training can offer you basic webdesign in Adobe CS3 but it's expensive.

I would in your position get someone to build the structure and then fill it in.

You may have already done this but what is important about the website is

1-what is it for
2-how will anyone find it
3-what does the competition's websites look like.

1. if its an online shop, don't even think about doing it home grown... set up an ebay shop instead

2. unless it has a unique and memorable name which is advertised locally or has a really unique niche group of users then the website will never appear on google's search pages (or at least it will in position 10 million!)

3. if the competition have snazzy all singing all dancing website then forget it... that will cost a lot of money and make your company look micky mouse.

You can waste vast amounts of time and money creating websites that are no use, don't hit the target audience, or even worse actually put you potential customers.

Get it right and the money can almost pour in... money supermarket for example made the owner about £120m when he sold part of it last year!!!

I would suggest if you are serious then seek professional advice... after all we can all count but that doesn't make us suitable to be tax accountants does it
