Weedkiller

Hi folks I need to shift some very stubborn weeds from our paved back garden area. Anyone got any recommendations, it needs to be animal friendly as we have 2 dogs that I don't want to kill off :D

Please note that I am not planning on putting it in Aidan's tea :green gri

TIA

:aidan

I use the weedol 2 on my block paved drive, rainproof in 10 mins safe with pets once dry (sachets in a watering can jobies)
:D:D

mind most likely other weeds will be back in about 3 months depending on the time of year.

strongest = Napalm :eek

didnt think he'd arrived yet;)

repeatably cutting the tops off or covering with something like carpet will cut out the light that will weaken the roots.

anything with glyphosate in it will work but watch out as it is a total systemic killer

+ 1 for Roundup. In my experience it's the only one that consistently does the business. It will be cheaper in a Farm Centre type place but may only be available in larger quantities. You probably don't need much so you may be best going to a garden centre. I was going to say I'd bring some with me to Kerry for you but then I realised you want to use it just before ye go. Wouldn't be good to have it around there anyway.

It needs at least 6 hours and preferably 24 of dry weather after application so that it can be absorbed fully by the weeds. The mixing instructions are quite complicated so what I find very effective is a mix of 100ml of Roundup to 5 litres of water.

It's toxic stuff so handle and store it with care. Tell yer man to use gloves and to wash off with water if it gets on his skin - we don't want him cranky in Kerry :rob

Ammonium Sulphamate is what I use, as this will kill ANY plant and is not harmfull to pets or children in the treatment area. When it breaks down it acts as a fertiliser.

We used to have a problem with Ivy which got everywhere and was immune to anything available in normal DIY gardening centers, including Roundup.

You won't find Ammonium Sulphamate anywhere in retail outlets as it's a banned product, but I bought a small amount from Dax products on eBay.

Roundup is as good as any , but as for price , go to farm shop as they sell by litre and it's approx £17 , when you go to garden centre they charge as much for 500 ml , it's safe to use as well as soon as dry , it's safe to operate it with so long as you use common sense , no need for White jump suit and wellies , heavy boots are fine , JUST be careful of spray drift onto fields or hedges or any plants , I have been using this type of weedkiller since i started as a gardener over 20 years ago , when you could get Gramoxne , deadly stuff . Just use a sprayer it's easier and less wastage . Just my thoughts

gettin all very technical...just tell the neighbours to take the washing in...

+1 for the Roundup(Glyphosate):thumb

As a farmer i've used it for years aswell and it's safe enough to use just don't overspray or use it in windy conditions.
