I joined the forum to get ideas for a visit to the UK. In the end I got a little car instead of a bike. Back home now late start to the season. So this was my first bike trip this year.
It is very popular with local rider, some parts well known. Thought it might be of interest if someone was visiting.

I got an invite to join BMW Motorad in Sun Peaks sounded great but even BYOB it was about a grand per day. 5 X, I'm more of a 1 X guy. So when I spotted my local BMW dealer. Had a camping weekend ride for 100 bucks. I put my name down. Unfortunately despite all the hot weather fire ect. The weekend forecast was !@#$. A hundred bucks is a hundred buck's. So whats a little rain.

Friday instead of heading east to the meet up point at Highroad BMW. I was heading west to the alternate meet up in Pemberton.
Depart 0800 2.5 Hr ride on a good day. This wasn't a good day. Heavy rain rush hour through down town Vancouver, Stanly park and up the 99 Sea to Sky to Pemberton North of Whistler. I make a few trips per year up to Squamish. Rare I go further than Whistler.
I intended to stop in Squamish for coffee and breakfast. I got there about 1000, Heavy rain lots of traffic. I was due in Pemberton so no warm up back cold wet nut's or not. I was hoping the mountains would help. Usually you get heavy rain in the west and it dries out as you go over the summit.
Stopped at Tantalus lookout. Nothing to see here today.
I stopped at Green Lake after Whistler for a quick photo opp. Rain getting lighter. Beginning to have something to look at. Reputation this is one of the best rides in Canada. maybe not today . It is spectacular scenery on a nice day. can be quite heavy traffic up to Whistler. I had no reason to stop this time.
So back on the bike and kept going its only 30 40 K to Pemberton.
Topped up with gas. Got a coffee and met the group. I'm I settled in with the beginner group just going to take the Duffy Lake road. Only 100k or so. Paved. I don't know how many corner's. A few.
The more adventurous group, Taking the Hurly, 200+K over the mountain in rain. I was quite happy to stick with the Duffy Lake, Its a couple of years since I had been this way.
It's a great ride. Steep winding, Lake views, just for fun, wooden bridges. At the bottom of a steep decent or accent. It mostly dried up. Really nice ride. We stopped for a couple off photo ops. I would like to have stopped more.
BC Hydro Camp site, Its free, nice scenic first come first serve, 5 minutes from Lillooet. We were warned sou with a couple of cubs on our side of the creek. Salmon running just now so hopefully more interested in the salmon. Than my hot dogs. got set up and cached my grub up a tree, JIK. Required Mhee. Not in my tent anyway.
Went for a nice ride up past the town. Lillooet is a 1st Nation community. The salmon running so loads of trucks by the river for dip net fishing.
Crossed the wooden bridge and a nice easy gravel road up to an old mining area viewpoint. Back to camp to grill my hot dogs. And have a beer.

The support vehicle from the dealer (Manager) had to head out for a recovery, couple of bikes had some issues on the Hurly. It was midnight when he got them back. Got say its nice to know you will have someone who can come get you from the middle of nowhere.

Saturday, Nice breakfast, Kelly back from collecting a couple of broken bikes. fortunately no broken riders. Cooked up a nice big load of sausages bacon eggs ect. Our beginner group doubled in size and the adventurous group shrank a bit. The heavy rain yesterday was a bit of a challenge.
Nice ride today, Up to the dam at carpenter lake then along the lake. near Goldbridge. into an old gold rush mining camp. Again mountains, lakes ect spectacular. Mix of pavement and gravel. Narrow and steep with switch backs, hairpins and quite a lot of debris (fallen rocks).
We got to Baralorn and old gold mine. You can still get an active claim there. For your gold panning. Not so sure you can still get much gold. According to the rally nice and interesting lady at the museum.
Apparently the best make money scheme is to sell mining shares. Turns out most people aren't sharp enough to check if there is still any gold or not. Beautiful spot. According to the nice lady it was even more beautiful before the dam. Unfortunately the pub which is usually open at noon wouldn't open until 1500.
It's not a hard ride, If I can do it anyone can. really nice, a bit off the beaten track.
If you like a bit more comfort than me. We stopped for lunch(sandwitches) at Tyax heliskiing lodge. A burger in the restaurant was reasonable price.

The only guy with an issue at the end of the day was me. I picked up a joist hanger in my rear tire, Red flashing warning on my TPS. Great amusement for the whole gang. While I plugged the tire. First time.

Sunday back to town. I was with the slow group.
Lillooet down to the Fraser Canyon and Hope. It's all paved very scenic. The Fraser Canyon is a great ride, Hope to Vancouver. You can get a photo with Rambo in Hope. Otherwise Hwy 1 Hope to Van is just a big traffic nightmare. Horseshoe Bay to Hope via Lillooet really nice even in the rain.
I will try and some pics. Unfortunately I have none on the move so missed all the best bits.

Cheers, pics will REALLY bring it alive, if you find can upload them. (y)

Hi!
Are you living in the city itself or down in Richmond/Whiterock?
It seems like a connected BMW biking community there (I accept that as being unusual, in Harley land!).

I used to live in Kits, West End and West Van but unfortunately at that time, wasn't riding. 2O years of great opportunity, wasted!

Thanks for the photos and ride report.

Know Kits and West end well. My wife grew up between Kits and Point Grey. Near Jericho. Her dad had a place there until recently. We've lived on Saltspring Is for 30ish years. Retied. Kids all grown and in Vancouver. We now find we spend a lot, possibly most of our time at a flat in Steveston. Even though we still have our house on SSI.

I’m not much of a dirt rider.

Local BMW organised a BMW challenge back at the end off September up in Squamish. So I entered. What the hell. Hold my beer. Actually it was water.
It was fun and we had hot dogs. Brats I think. I think my score was DNF not sure how many times I dropped the bike. A Dozen?.
After lunch one of the guys suggested going up to the lookout it apparently wasn’t far.

Ok of if I went.
The road turned out to be a F-[]{}#%^ goat track up a mountain.
Oh well I was doing ok until my rear wheel dug in so deep I need a winch or 4 other guys to help get it out.
I kept going despite all common sense. Until the rider in front crashed and I stopped on a steep ascent where I couldn’t turn it
4 guys again.
Discretion this time I admitted defeat not quite at the top but lift a GS 4 times. I was buggered. So let the main team continue and set of to return to base.
Back through the stream, a few big bumps and hit a log. This time I was lifting the bike by myself. And dug the wheel in again.
Bugger.
Fortunately a nice young lad on a dirt bike bike happened by and helped me out.
So of I goes again.
This time I hit a boulder.
I have no idea how many times I’ve picked the bike up today.
Fortunately a nice young girl on a dirt bike helped me pick it up.
She seamed a bit concerned. Some stupid old dude on a GS halfway up a mountain totally out of breath.
I convinced her. I wasn’t about to kick any buckets yet. So she was fine to carry on. I had some buddies up at the summit team on the way back. JIK.
Oh well. I got going again
Made it down to near sea level.

Actually I had a really great day.
Sometimes doing something stupid just cause.
