on the fence
im with you tvr 4e .
i would expect better build/assembly from a bmw expecially being only 2.5 years old regardless of mileage.
mileage is irrelevant in my mnd have had better reliability with high likeage cars for example and bikes too.
i do agree some gesture should have come from bmw direction being that bike was only 6 months out of warranty. Aslo that customer had taken extended warranty out suggests his loyalty to the bike . Has the bike been dealer maintained? this would play some part in this folley..
Although home maintanance should not bear too harshly against customer. I have had a bmw r1200gsa since brand new . Have visited dealer 5 time with problems with fuel gauge irregularities particulary not registering when topping up and suddenly dropping from 3 bars to yellow triangle. Runout on rear wheel, difficult start when cold and cutting out and rdc fault red triangle to name but a few. None of faults ever rectified but bandaged over . Doubt i would buy another bmw with this experience although i will not be in a hurry to sell as i love it all the same...hehe. Best advice fill up and clock milerage/trip. Have had less trouble with 10 year old bikes with carburetors and three times the mileage..
I now do my own maintanance so if i break down only myself to blame as out of warranty, although i would expect at least 5 years trouble freeyears.
I would not recommend buying extended warranty to anyone for the example above says all.
