2010 Adv, 18 months old... ... 55W HID's on the bike now for 20k so far, and the coating on the reflector has started to burn, about 1 inch so far above the burner... Not noticed any realy effect on the light being kicked out, but just a query as in 18 months it will need it's first MOT, is this likely to cause any issues??

If the light pattern is up to snuff in 18 months time, you should be OK.

Plenty more things can happen over the next year and a half

Same issue here and passed MOT yesterday with no comment.

Paul give me shout and I can sort out for a Ceramic Core bulb if you want, they run cooler so should stop any more marking ?

Les, can you comment on what temperature HID burners run at compared to halogen? I know they are hot but as they are more efficient I would have thought they ran cooler although not by much.
