Had oil coming through the seam in the gearbox ~ Engine. Was told its a silly gearbox pushrod seal, and the bike has to be split.
OK, so, with 55K on her I said stick a complete new clutch kit in.
Picked it up a week later. All happy.
Just completed 2000 miles down to the South of France and back and guess what, the feckin oil is still coming through:mad:
I asked as the new clutch was being fitted, was the seal overlooked, but was told no, it was done. and also that when it was apart the rod was checked for scoring, which it was not.
Bike back in to look at seal. again.
Now, this is my view. I have paid for the job to be done once and it hasnt been sorted. So, now its in again, I shouldn't have to pay anything :thumb2
Tell me that's right :rob

It depends - it might be the rear crankshaft oil-seal. If there was no sign of that weeping when the bike was last split, then......:nenau

Nigel....that's right :thumb2

Yeah, that's what I think. Ive paid a monkey already and its not been rectified.
Thats like me plastering a ceiling to hide the stipple artex, but when its painted its not covered it and can still be seen. Down to me !!!!!

Assuming that it's the same problem that was not rectified, It seems more than reasonable that you shouldn't pay again.

Make sure of your facts though, in case it could be another problem, and deal with them with your best professional polite head on :thumb

I can see you're one of life's optimists.....:augie

:D If i say it many times, it will be :D

Bill, Yes, I did think that, what's stopping him from saying its something else?
Im happy to pay for parts if that is the case....

Neil, Well, opposite of Ill :nenau

I would have taken it to someone whom I trust explicitly, or gone to someone who's reputation is 100%..
Im lucky, I have a genius mechanic who is a mate but I am trying to learn as much as i can myself...
I must admit a clutch would be a daunting task for me, Then again I have found nothing but helpful people on here, more than willing to help with advice and silly questions..So I might have thought about doing it myself..But probably not....
and if my mate didn't exist then a trip to West London would be on the cards...250 miles away...
This doesn't help you now tho'...
I think that talking (nicely) to your mechanic and explaining your thoughts and worries would be the order of the day, 99% of mechanics are here to help and all they want is to have a happy customer that will return time and time again and tell their friends..They, just like you want an easy life, not angry customers that cause them grief and anger but satisfied customers that smile....
Also please don't forget he has the same bills per month as you, probably more so, Would you work all day for no wagers at all? He wont either...Good luck....Tosh

of course, if my work that i was paid to do was not correct, failed or didnt last, then i would have to do it again, AT MY COST.

It won't be the first..

It can happen.. it happened when I had my clutch done.

Doesn't have to be a damaged push rod - when it all goes back together the seal jobby doesn't always quite seat correctly or isn't quite right for some reason and bingo the oil comes back and possibly the clutch starts slipping again too.

The bloke who did the work for me just did it again and replaced the spoiled friction plate thingamy too, no questions asked. I'd say that was fair doos but I was most grateful.

I think I was lucky that the clutch wasn't contaminated and slipped. Yes, I'm hoping that this time it is sorted. I'm also hoping that it was overlooked....
