As per the title whats it like camping in July around the west coast, will the little f*ckers be filling the air.

Camp next to the sea they dinnae like the breeze or it'll be blowing a hooligan and yi'll not see any:thumb

Cover yourself in treacle and brown sugar rotts the wee buggers teeth:thumb

Don't be a big southern jessy :rob

You will not be garaunteed midge's unless you book them in advance:thumb

Thats that idea out then.
Ta.

It's alright as long as you take precautions.

Headnets + Hat (a MUST)

Insect repellent (I find Jungle Formula works for me, Avon Skinsosoft is crap)

Tent with inner with no-see-um mesh which you keep closed all the time

Lemon candle

Long sleeved shirt, thin cloth gloves

If it's cool, cold or windy, you wont get bothered by Midgies. Go fo it, you'll be fine :thumb

Thats me, I was going to do a 7 day trip to Germany but that came to nothing and I need to save a bit of money so I'm looking for something to do mon to fri. I do have a £100 credit note with Brittany Ferries so also thinking of using that and having 5 days camping in France. Decisions decisions.

Sounds bloody awfull.

dont listen to themTrippy, it's just a cunning plan to keep our roads quieter in the summer months. if you are camping try to head for damp wooded areas as the midges dont seem to like these areas:nenau. be sure to let us know how you get on:thumb

I won't rule out Scotlandshire just yet cos everytime I watch coast I think how much I want to go up there (only been to Aberdeen before).
Is it possibe to get away with popping a tent up next to beach for a night when your in the middle of no-where?

Use the credit note, Plymouth - Roscoff.

Head to Falaise (easy ride), stay in the Falaise municipal camp-site (brilliant and perfect location under William the Bastard's castle), then do some D-Day and Falaise Pocket WWII stuff.

All-in-all, probably cheaper than the shlep to Scotlandshire.

(No Jockinese midges and no Jockinese either - result! ;))

You'll probably be fine as long as you you're not conspicuous - remember to leave no trace of you having been there...

For what it's worth- I'd only come up here if the weather is looking reasonable as you'll miss out on many of the stunning views.

I went to the Normandy beaches first week in April. Cold nights.

But sunny days.

I stopped on a site just outside Quettehou, a few k's south of Barfleur called Le Rivage. It was ok for 10 Euro's a night. The double pitch at the far end of the site (the one with the tree) could easily accomodate 4 tents and bikes together.
I loved their outside urinals.

But did they have to put them next to the kids playground!

Eat lots of garlic, or take garlic capsules, they don't like that and will only bite you the once as they don't like the taste:augie You'll have no mates either. (True facts).
