Rode the Varadero to the BMW shop on Saturday to see if they could cough up an actual delivery date, 'It’s on its way from germany' was the last I had heard. Walked into the showroom and guess what, there it was, all shiny and complete with number plate. ‘Is that mine’ I heard a quivering voice say, ‘Yes’ was the answer. Swiped my plastic money card, sign a few forms and rode my new 1200GS home in the late afternoon – the long scenic route of course he he.

We have managed 300kms so far – yeah yeah, I know it’s not much but it pissed down most of Sunday. Finally it stopped so off we went….no rain just wet roads….

The boss was wriggling around quite a lot, something she never normally does so I stopped at a café after 30km, “Wus up” I said – “Look at this” she said and turn around. The whole of her lower back was filthy, the poor lass was covered in water and road muck.
Why has’nt this been mentioned by anybody else???

The bike has BMW side boxes fitted but no top box, is this the answer?? Can’t ride the bike without top box if its raining hmmmm….Am wondering if the weird gizmo fitted to the rear wheel has anything to do with production of the offending spray. No other bike has this ‘thing’ – what is it for?? Will it help to take it off???
None of the many other bikes I have owned had anything like the same spray problem.
We discovered this problem the very first time out on wet roads - why hav’nt I found a thread about this ??

Having dried her off and calmed her down a little, the boss then took her first ride on ‘our’ 12. Upon returning her general comment was – “Everything about the front seat is positive - everything about the rear seat is negative”. Apart from the spray problem, the pegs are too high resulting in the body being supported on the balls of ya arse (my words not hers). Not confidence inspiring under acceleration or comfortable for that matter.

Any suggestions guys and gals…clean and usable ones preferred…….
:D :D :D

Suggest

Ditch the rear mudguard thingy and fit numberplate mud flap, Touratech or make own from cut down plastic paint roller tray.

Then rear peg lowerers for the wife.

problem solved?

cheers
