Come Spring I'll be buying a new bike. I've been wondering whether to go KTM 1190R or the new 1200GSA. Threads like this definitely sway me towards the KTM, if only because the 1200GS rider mentality often still baffles me and I'll most likely not have to read about this in the orange section!!

You pay your money and make your choice, But I personally think the GSA will be the best adventure bike by a long way, the new LC comes top at the moment and the best model is yet to come.

My bike has 8000 miles and the box is silky smooth no issues with anything, by far the best bike ive owned so far, and will be ordering a GSA in Feb.

A mate at work has the KTM he is changing it for the BMW in the new year

This forum is definitely the worst thing about the new LC. I did try going elsewhere, and found some nice helpful non-sarcastic types on the UK 911 forum. Only problem was, they just wanted to talk about Porsches.

Wife's trousers after 220 mile ride in the rain, panniers, top box and bike just as bad!!

Interestingly I went out on my own today and when I got back my wife said the top of my right leg at the back was all mucky! So she normally gets all this and I stay clean, knew she had some good uses........lol

...it's people like you that just accept the above and don't complain that mean the problem is never fixed and people are still getting wet and dirty when they ride on roads that are wet and dirty!

The other day I rode down a back road covered in wet fallen leaves and some have flicked up and stuck to the bike, do you think I should complain to BMW or the tyre company?

You have only provided an unnecessary re-post of the picture of your wife's trousers. This significantly devalues the contribution to adventure biking (and the whole 1200 GS ownership 'experience') your thread intends to make.

Quickly, remedy this act of laziness on your part. Show us YOUR trousers, before it's too late, mate.

I reckon that the spray which is normally thrown up as a rooster behind most 'normal' bikes hits the GS stone shield and drops back onto the rear tyre, thus allowing the wheel to throw a double amount further up the arc and so flicks all of the crap out higher up and more forward.... Just a theory though and could be boll-cks!

Has any one done a comparison with GS stone catcher removed/fitted?

I took my "catcher" off, with in a couple of getting the bike. Just don't like it.

When I've ridden in the wet I still get a damp right leg, mainly heel and thigh/butt.

As for spray up the back of the bike, not sure it makes any difference. But it looks a lot better!

I doubt whether anyone has been desperate enough do to a somewhat unscientific comparison between the two.

But hey, don't let that stand in your way.

If you're referring to the large plastic item sticking out behind the wheel in this piccy:

....then it has nothing to do with trying to be any sort of catcher....it's there purely to satify German TUV standards which say something along the lines of that there must be some portion of fixed body work behind the rear of the back tyre....

They provide nothing apart from a convenient place to stick a GB sticker for riding abroad......off road, they can be a menace because they can quite easily get caught up with large rocks and wrap themselves over the top of the tyre.

.... It's only purpose is for TT to sell yet another bit of bling to bods, to cover up the two bolt holes left behind when some punters remove the plastic to 'personalise' their bike and 'make a statement'.

I don't get why you need to bother capping the holes. My mud guard was removed & binned on 1st day of ownership and holes have been there since. Doesn't bother me.

Well there`s lots of opinions

Well, there seems lots of opinions and I can see the merits in all of them. Good clothing/bike protection/driving a car/manning up seems to be just a few we can all choose from

Personally I would opt for very good clothing - its expensive but always money well spent however a few of the lads has asked me to make some `protective farkles` as follows and I`m wondering if a set of the side crud catchers for our new watercooled babies would be a good idea......... they are an aquired taste to be fair and don`t offer huge protection but some of the lads were keen for them - personal choice methinks!

I`ll make some for mine in any case

Perhaps Mr Hooton could come up with some stainless panels that could deflect the tyre spray away or protect the rider/ pillion passengers legs in the absence of a mudslinger

Gotta admit, mudslingers are a great bit of kit by themselves or in conjuction with good kit/a pair of balls/protective gear on the bike!

(But then again I am going to talk good of anything and anybody.................)

But they are good anyway!
