So I decided to change the oil and filter this evening as parts turned up earlier than expected.

So I removed the bash plates ( I've got two, one on top of the other, is this normal??)

I stated the engine and warmed her up, shut off and removed the drain plug (was very tight, broke an extension bar trying to undo it )
So, with the oil drained, I get the newly acquired oil filter tool and try to remove the filter........ the tool just slips around the filter when small force applied, it fits the new filter, but not the old ????.... :blast:blast

I try various things including last resort of punching two screwdrivers up into the filter and trying to turn them..... fail........ oil filter just tears open :forry:forry:forry

So now I have no oil in the bike and a filter I can't remove.... bugger!
So, drastic action required, I get daughters boyfriend ( who is here for dinner) to help me lay the bike on it's side ( utilizing the cylinder protectors and engine bars) and get under the filter with a pair of water pump pliers and a hammer, and proceed to kick the living shit out of this fucking piece of shit oil filter!

Anyhoo, after about 20 mins of butchery, it finally let go..... phew.... :thumb it looked like an exploded bomb casing when I finally got it out

New filter fitted 3.75 litres of 15W/50 installed and bike tested...... all good. :clap

Just waiting for the gear oil to arrive so I can do the gearbox and final drive for the weekend's riding.

yes, thats a common occurrence...well done on getting it out. Next time using Steptoe's tip:bow.......put some sand paper inside the removal tool and it should grip better

2 bash plates yes, thats right... proper built like .:thumb

Thanks, ahh, yes, sand paper :blast why didn't I think of that?:nenau

This bike is gonna take some getting used to, it has some qwerks that I will eventually get used to I guess....

But doesn't it feel nice to know that you're riding granite, not plastic :beerjug:

Not trying to steal ones thread uncle F but your title struck a cord with me this evening too

Now I'm no perfectionist but I am when it comes to the stoppers on the beast

Wife's mate pops in for a visit tonight which gave me the opportunity to shoot out for a quick blast :D

On my return I randomly checked the front brake discs, all was not well, movement forward on both and a smidgin of lateral :(

I got the beast into the man cave, and scurried around for a torque wrench and an Allen head attachment :)

First one tightening, slip and fkd the head, bollox! Second one the same, then I realised they were fkn welded in and loctited up to the bastard gills!

At this point I had visions of taking my wheel into the local shop and being ridiculed , then realised I'm an adult and couldn't give a toss

Flicking to the end result I removed the wheel, heated and removed the bolts I could and drilled out the 5, yes 5 I had completely ballsed up

Timeline, checked discs at 7:30pm, have just climbed into bed with disc removed and an order tomorrow for replacement bolts and wavey washers

Nightmare, but not as bad as it could have been

Regards all

H

Edit: uncle F, every day is a school day ;)

bloody hell mate ! when I undid my bolts I use copper slip on them retorqued it and no reason to use Loctite from the factory least mine is sorted

When I've had trouble getting the filter off and I'm in a hurry/emergency - I put the bike on the side stand and undo the bottom oil return pipe(the 22mm bolt) just below the sight glass and get 'most' the oil out that way.

Before I knew the sandpaper route, I degreased the filter and tool, then applied epoxy and let it set, once off a good hammer smack all the epoxy came loose...

How tight do you tighten your filters. They only need a little nip, just above hand tight.

It's happened to me as well. Pain in the arse, it is. Now I know Steptoe's trick I've managed OK every time since then.

Oll filter

You've probably got a Moto Bins filter these are slightly smaller than std and are supplied with a tool for removal.
