having ridden the new(ish) 800 ,only a few times ,once as fast as i want ,i was so dissapointed ,with the std screen ,in fact its the worst screen i had ever ridden with (and ive had 43 bikes).at 70/80,it was trying to rip my head off, with my airoh moto style helmet .
ive just put on a powerbronze/metal mule screen,£76.00 ,on special offer ,what a diferrence MARK71,said to me to try his screen ,but i didnt have time before he went on holiday ,so i oredered one .
wow its great ,completly changed the bike ,it was a pleasure to ride ,even with my airoh on .
of course theres still a bit of turbulance ,but its completly different bike .
well happy ...

The standard screen is actually too tall if you take your bike on an adventure south of the UK. Swapped mine for a shorty and was very glad of it in Morocco.

Even in the UK, I find the standard screen perfect for the riding and speeds I do.

That's why BMW bothered...

just PM you, as I was thinking of the PowerBronze screen for mine, thanks for the offer for the voucher.

Strange, I have just taken a Metal Mule screen off my 650 twin, as the buffetting was making my ears hurt... and earplugs don't help, the vibration is transmitted through the helmet.

I've gone back to the original 650 fitting, which is little more than a flyscreen, but at least the airflow is smooth when it hits my Multitec.

I wonder, is it a factor of upper body length? I'm 5'8'' with short legs, and so my head sticks up into the slipstream.

So, new screen or new helmet?

Same for me on my 800. Metal Mule screen is great at deflecting the wind blast off you, but sadly creates a deafening roar that gives me tinitus for a day after riding with it.

Apparantly the little clip on deflector for the top of the screen will probably solve this - practising by holding my hand flat against the top of the screen seemed to do the trick! Guess Touratech are going to get a bit more of my hard earned money!!

Bearing in mind that I spend 90% of my riding in the UK and not on an 'Adventure', I find the standard screen just pushes every bug into my face and that's why I changed the screen and got the deflector on too. I am still at liberty to make such personal choices. Should I need it, the standard screen sits in my garage as it's not a permanent change to the bike. How cool is that ? :thumb2

The majority of F800 owners must agree with me as there are more non standard screens fitted than standard ones ...... not everything BMW does is perfection

Got any pics of your bike Dave ? I'm assuming that a proper Adventurer like yourself has a totally standard bike as that's how BMW bothered to set them up; no nobblies or aftermarket seat or other farkles

It's covered in them - the previous owner did me the favour of opening his wallet!

My point was that not everything BMW does is shite, in reply to the statement:
"Yep, fcuk knows why BMW even bothered to put a screen on if it was going to be as wank as the standard one. What a waste of money."

To me the standard sceen is great, and I suspect for many others too. Maybe I'm just a weird shape, or maybe they figured people wouldn't be using the bike as an everyday tourer as much as they are - I include myself in that bracket. Although don't forget BMW also do a tall screen (if your pockets are deep enough) so they did think about it.

Still got a shit hard seat mind...

I get on fine with the 800 standard screen (my 650 is the 30 year so had the 800 screen as standard).

Not seen any alternative screen that looks anywhere near as good.

I have the BMW touring screen on my 800 and it`s not ideal. It takes most of the windblast off my chest and directs it straight at my helmet.Every flying object gets splattered on my visor :eek:I`m thinking of trying the MRA X-Creen if it will fit, only trouble is the bloody thing costs about £90 + so is an expensive experiment if it doesn`t work.Anybody got one?

You think the F800 standard screen is shite? Try the F650GS twin screen.
It's even smaller!
I lived with it for a year until a friend of mine made me a screen (he's very good with plastics).
The F650 screen, like that useless piece of black plastic on the GS1200 that sits over the rear tire and inevitably falls off or works very loose, is best used as a kiddie shovel by a child to play with digging in the garden or at the beach.
The "wonders of Spandau" never cease.

I found the Powerbronze one to bend about too much at the top which was a bit off-putting. Put the original back on the 2008 800 GS and have got used to it

Have the Wunderlich Ergo Vario.
Good - much better weather protection, much warmer.
Bad - too bloody warm in the summer, in fact, so much less wind that my visor is constantly steaming up. The upside is that the wind blast is so much less that I can ride with the visor up, but gets noisy.
On balance, I like it a lot, better winter than summer though.
